BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
Drew heard the sirens.
She heard them as she walked down the stairs, her legs wobbling, but steady enough for her to walk quickly. As she walked down the stairs, she noticed a door towards the other side of the room. It wasn't visible from the entrance.
That's where Greg must've hidden.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
As soon as Drew reached down the stairs and turned towards the door, she saw John, the other muscular man, staring at her with a horrified expression. He gawked at her and then up the stairs and growled.
"You son of a-"
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
John knew he didn't have the time. He turned and ran away. Drew didn't react for a second. She was prepared for him to run at her and try to harm her but she wasn't ready for him to run away.
"NO!" Drew screamed and followed the man outside.
But she was too slow. The adrenaline was fading and her stomach hurt, along with her head. Her vision had started to get dizzy.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
By the time she reached the door, John was already inside the truck. She saw him and the other man through the glass window. She couldn't see the young boy but she knew they had him.
"NO!" She yelled again. All of this couldn't go to waste.
The truck pulled away just as a police car drove past her.
But the truck was fast.
Drew fell to her knees and all her tears broke loose. She didn't know why she was crying anymore. Was it because it hurt? Or was it because maybe the boy was gone now?
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
"DREW HAYES!" An officer called. "WATCH OUT!"
Too late.
Drew hadn't heard the sound of a gun clicking behind her.
She hadn't noticed a hand reaching out to catch her until it was too late. The enormous hands of Greg once again caught her.
"Stand up," he said slowly with a deadly calm voice.
Drew was frozen with fear and obliged. Her tears didn't stop. Drew was dead. She was going to die. Nothing would matter now.
Greg caught Drew's arm with her left hand which was shaking badly. His other hand was pointed towards her head. His other hand held a gun.
"STAND BACK OFFICERS!" He yelled. The sirens had stopped.
Drew shook away the fear from her eyes and studied the scene in front of her. Four officers were holding four guns, all pointing towards the man in front of her.
Drew wasn't that tall. She wasn't bulky either. She didn't hide the enormous monster behind her. The police could easily shoot him dead. But the monster held a gun against Drew's head. He would take her down with her.
"Shoot him," Drew said shakily, her voice loud enough to tear through the cold wind of the brutal winter and reach the officer's ears. "I don't care. Shoot him."
"Put the guns down," Greg said loudly. "NOW!"
The officers did as he told.
They were playing Simon Says where Greg was Simon and there was a life at risk and it was Drew's life and she said no.
Drew took a deep breath, gathering all her energy. The world slowed down for her. The adrenaline returned. She jumped into action.
Drew used her left elbow to hit Greg's stomach with all her force. He removed his hand in pain and clutched it. His hands had been shaking already and they pulled the trigger just as Drew fell to her left with a THUMP. The bullet flew above her head, barely grazing her hair, before hitting the wall to the left.
The police jumped to action as well.
Greg kicked Drew. His leg hit her head and her world went black.
Drew was dragged into oblivion with the sound of bullets still ringing in her ears.
