Hermione’s POV
Pansy and I spent the afternoon in our dorm brainstorming some different ways to get back at Draco. After a lot of debate we are finally making our way to the Slytherin dormitories. “Tell me again why you think we should talk to Astoria before we approach Draco?” I grab her hand and pull her to a stop.

“Pans we already talked about this. I am just as mad at Draco as you are, but it’s only logical that we get all the information surrounding this situation before we jump straight into revenge.” She clearly isn’t happy with it, but she continues walking towards the Slytherin dorms.

We get to the door and that’s when we are both struck with the realization that we don’t know the password. Sure Pansy is a Slytherin, but eighth years weren’t given the passwords to the house dorms this year since we have our own place. I slide down the wall, “Now I guess we just sit here and wait for someone to come out.” Just as I sit down the door opens.

“Good news, it looks like we won’t have to wait long.” The door opens and out walks Daphne Greengrass. I take this opportunity to ask her where we can find her sister and just as I was hoping she is in her dorm. I grab Pansy’s hand as we enter the common room. My unease grows as everyone in the common room turns to look at me. I squeeze her hand a little tighter and do my best not to make eye contact with anyone. That would just make this whole situation more awkward.

Pansy hesitates when we get to Astoria’s dorm. She looks at me and I give her a slight nod of encouragement. I’m not entirely sure why she is hesitating, but whatever it is couldn’t possibly be good. She knocks lightly on the door and Astoria opens it with a smile that fades as she lays eyes on us. “What do you want?”

Pansy looks upset so I answer, “We just wanted to ask you about Draco.” Her face lights up at his name, but she quickly returns it to that cold mask that all Slytherins seem to be capable of. “What about him?” I feel like slapping the attitude out of her, but I know that won’t get me anywhere. “Well is he acting strange?”

She scoffs and I can see that Pansy is fighting the urge to maim the girl, “I wouldn’t say it’s strange for him to have finally come to his senses.” I’m completely lost at that, but luckily she continues, “It was of course only a matter of time before he got over all of the gay nonsense and realized it was within his best interest to marry me.” She flips her hair over her shoulder and I am absolutely floored by what she is insinuating. There is no way that the Draco I know would marry this girl, he’s above that.

I thank Astoria for her time although it kind of hurts me inside to be nice to her after the comment she just made and practically drag Pansy out of the Slytherin common rooms. As soon as we make it in the hallway I cast a muffliato and turn on Pansy, “What is she talking about?!? Marriage?! Is this some kind of joke?” Pansy looks exhausted when she answers me, “It’s not a joke.” She has to be kidding, Merlin please let this all be some big misunderstanding.
“Let me explain; before Lucius was sent to trial he had a marriage contract drawn up with the Greengrasses. It stated that once Astoria graduated from Hogwarts her and Draco would get married and produce at least one male heir. Of course Draco hated the idea of marrying a woman, let alone one as annoying as Astoria, so he voided the contract the moment he took control of the Malfoy estate.” I have never felt so confused.

“If Draco was the one to call off the marriage, then what’s with the certain change of heart?” It just doesn’t make sense. “That’s what I’m trying to figure out. Something just isn’t adding up. You should have seen how happy Dray was when he told us that the contract was void and he didn’t have to marry her. Honestly this whole thing is a bit strange; Draco has been in love with Harry for years; he wouldn't just throw that away especially for a woman he can’t stand.”
