Chapter 5:Mission

As Katherine was driving back she had felt the feeling that she was being followed. Looking back after every turn she saw that the black SUV was right behind her, Katherine didn't stop driving. She knew that if she went to the safe house her cover would be blown and she would be dead, whoever was in the car wanted to kill her and report back to whoever they were working for. They came for a reason and that reason was to take her or end her. Katherine had only one thing to do and that was to lose them. As soon as every light turned green she drove past the upcoming cars and turned every turn that she could. The SUV stayed in traffic but they caught up to her. She drove faster and made a right then saw a street and went left. As she looked back she knew that she had lost them, the adrenaline had stopped and she was with fear they knew where she was. She quickly drove to the safe house and started packing everything.
"Hey Katherine, what's going on? Why are you packing?"
"I was being followed. They know we are here, we have to leave before...."
Before she could finish her sentence there was a knock on the door.
"Josh, does anyone know about this place? Whispered Katherine
"No, not even the people in the town know that we are here. This house is a dead zone to them. They don't come here at all."
They stared at each other knowing that they were found. They waited for a second before they could even breathe when the door broke down. Josh grabbed Katherine and brought her to the basement, under the mats was a secret underground area with guns and knives. She was in shock at how many and how she didn't know. Josh quickly gave her a gun." Katherine I know you have never practiced with a gun but only shoot if you have a clear shot. If you can even get a clear shot." She nodded. They exited the area, they walked upstairs slowly looked around the kitchen as they were walking into the living room they were being shot at. There were 4 men, two shooting from upstairs and two downstairs. Josh was firing bullets left and right but most of the bullets missed he was able to kill 2 of the men from upstairs.
"Katherine, you have to kill the other men! I'm out of bullets." Josh said in frustration.
"I CAN'T"
"YOU CAN BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN YOU!"
Katherine didn't believe in herself to even shoot, Katherine tried shooting but missed. Katherine couldn't get a clear shot, she eventually saw a clear shot and took it. She was able to kill one of the men. There was still one left and one bullet in the chamber. Katherine waited until she heard the click of no bullets in the chamber. As soon as she heard the click she aimed and shot. Katherine walked to the dead body that was just laying on the floor and saw that she had just shot this man in between his eyes. There was a dead soulless body lying on the floor.
    Josh grabbed me by the arm and pulled me to the car. I sat in the seat watching Josh run back into the house, I couldn't help but to think that this is really my life as a cold hearted killer, on the run. The thoughts of having to kill and kill to protect myself and others around me aren't what I envisioned for myself. Josh ran back into the car and we drove off.
"Katherine are you alright?" Josh said with pain in his voice.
Katherine didn't speak, she just sat there frozen, Josh looked at her worried but didn't want to continue to bring up the subject. Katherine and Josh still had a long way to go to reach Anthony and where he was staying.
    "We are meeting with good friends of Elizabeth's. They had agreed to let us stay for a while and be of any help they do know to keep this a secret, plus they want to meet the new queen of the mafia."
Katherine smiled but after what happened her smile faded.
"Katherine, I need you to drive because I'm getting tired. We still have 6 hours of driving to go."
We pulled over and switched spots, we have already been driving for 3 hours. As I was driving I couldn't help but to think of Noah, my love. I left him and he's probably thinking that I didn't love him and that I don't care about him but I couldn't tell him the truth. I didn't want him to know yet and I had to fix this. I couldn't let Anthony get the satisfaction of hurting my family. He will be brought down and I will be the one to bring him down.
    Josh woke up and it was time for me to sleep. I need sleep. I felt like I had been awake for what felt like three days. I fell into a deep sleep faster than ever before.
"Katherine hey wake up were here." Josh said calmly and quietly.
I woke up to a big mansion and guards outside. One of the guards had opened my door, and as I stepped out I saw a big mansion not as big as back home. A group of people came out, two women and five men. They were filled with jewelry, the women in beautiful suits that looked extremely expensive. One of the ladies has long brown hair, a heart shaped face, easy on the eyes, full lips, and a perfect figure is Mrs. Anna Ross, her family are associated with the Lions they are close friends. The other lady has short black hair, round face, eyes that will snatch your soul, small lips. Mrs. Alexandra Ross married Anna. Alexandra was a Lion but fell in love with Anna they were close friends, Alexandra's parents didn't accept at first but then gave in, after getting to know Anna they were called in for a mission and were both shot. Alexandra moved in with Anna and helped her with her parents that were very sick. Anna's parents got worse and passed away, they never got the chance to really know Alexandra. The men that surrounded them were guards dressed in black suits with expensive watches, their sleeves rolled up and in perfect shape.
"You must be Mrs. Lion to be, well it is such an honor to meet you." One of the women said with excitement.
"Please call me Katherine, it is an honor to meet you and thank you for allowing me and Josh to stay in your home." Katherine said.
"Oh it's no problem, and please call me Anna, this is my wife Alexandra."
"Hello Alexandra."
"Call me Alex, if you need anything please do not hesitate to let me know. Now let's show you around." Alex said with joy.
They showed me every inch of the house, beautiful decorations, big chandeliers, lots of rooms, each hallway filled with at least ten rooms. I was able to see my room and it was big, for me being a guest they sure went all out. We walked to the study and I felt the sudden urge to sleep.
"I'm so sorry you must be tired, you must rest, we have a lot to do tomorrow." Anna said.
"Umm...what do you mean we have a lot to do?" Katherine said with confusion.
"Josh didn't tell you...well we are having a masquerade ball in three days and you need to get ready."
"I'm sorry as much as I would love to go, I can't. I don't want to risk anyone noticing me."
"You'll be fine, we will make sure you have the best mask. Plus you have no choice, and also we have to discuss a mission that I think you would be perfect doing." Anna said with excitement.
"Okay fine."
As I left the room I saw that Josh stayed in there, continuing to speak to Anna and Alex, he didn't speak much during our time here so far. I wasn't going to think much of it, I would rather go to sleep. I went to my room and hit the bed and instantly fell asleep.
    I heard a knock at my door and instantly woke up in fear, since I had finally killed someone I was starting to feel nervous, I felt myself having anxiety.
"Come in." Katherine yelled.
"Hey, I just wanted to bring you breakfast and I wanted to let you know when you're all done and awake head into the study."
"Let me guess, the ball?"
"Actually yes and also because we have to discuss something. I'll let you know more about it when you're ready." Anna said seriously.
"Okay I'll see in a few then." Katherine said with curiosity.
Anna left the room and Katherine couldn't help but to think of what needed to be discussed. She continued eating and the thought of Noah being at the ball caused her to stop. If she is seen by him, everything will be ruined.
Now that I was wide awake, I was able to look around my room. I saw I had my own bathroom with a shower and a separate tub, I had my own balcony and I had a closet filled with clothes that shockingly fit me. I got dressed, headed downstairs and went straight to the study. As I entered I saw bodyguards, Josh, Anna and Alex they had all waited on me, I saw that they were all ready to begin the conversation.
"Okay now that everyone is all here we need to discuss the mission, some of you know and some of you don't. The mission will be happening during the ball, we have one of our enemies arriving, Anthony Rodriguez, his brother Jacob Rodriguez. Anthony and his brother are enemies but Jacob is ours. We need to get information on his upcoming plans, we get that information then we will know our next plans. Any questions?" Alex said in all seriousness.
"Alex I have a question, so Anthony and his brother aren't close and they pretty much hate each other. You hate his brother and want information while we dance around in the ball?" Katherine said sarcastically
"Yes, Anthony is your enemy and Jacob is ours. I know you don't have any history with his brother so you will have to go in and get any information that would help." Alex said.
"Okay why me out of people? I get that he doesn't know me or anything about me but what if he's good people with Noah and knows about me? What if he somehow knows that I am trying to get information on him? Will Noah be at the ball?"
Everyone looked at each other when I asked about Noah.
"Jacob doesn't talk to Noah, they had an altercation and left them being bad blood with one another. Noah won't be at the ball." Josh said.
"One last question, will Anthony be at the ball? Katherine asked with curiosity.
"Yes he will, even though he and his brother are enemies. Anthony will do anything to be at any mafia parties." Alex said.
I looked at everyone who was looking back at me, I knew I had no choice. They let me in their homes and the least that I can do is return the favor. I looked at Alex and shook my head up and down and she knew that I was in. They explained everything to me and I couldn't believe that I was doing this. I mean I couldn't believe that I had killed two people. They brought hairdressers, makeup artists, and stylists to get me ready. Alex explained that Jacob liked and talked to women who were classy, feisty, and sexy. At the moment that I don't fit the part but after everything I think I am able to pull this off. I didn't think I fit the part but after everything that has been happening, anything is possible. When I was younger I was always told that I was a great actress. I know I can get information and maybe he can give me information about his brother. I just hope that Anthony doesn't recognize me, if he does, I am a dead man. As I got ready I couldn't help but to think that everything that I am doing is for him and I miss him but I can't keep thinking about him because I will be distracted from the mission.
    As I looked into the mirror it was like I couldn't recognize myself, I looked different and I definitely felt different. At that moment I knew they would not recognize me, no one would recognize me.
    When I finished getting ready I was called down to the party. They had announced me but didn't use my real name, I was announced as Amelia, the host representing the Ross family. I had all eyes on me and I was announced to make a speech, and I wasn't told to make a speech but I had to improvise.
"Good Evening ladies and gentlemen thank you all for coming. I am your host for tonight Amelia and tonight is for all of you to have fun and to enjoy yourselves so please enjoy the drinks and the food. Thank you and have a good time!"
    I did a small speech but everyone seemed to enjoy my little speech especially for being the girl that no one has heard of or even seen around. But I have to make everyone believe that I have been around just never notice as if I was a walking ghost. I introduced myself to everyone as I was about to approach Jacob, I was yanked by someone. As I turned my head I saw that it was Anthony. He pulled me into the hallway, we stopped and he looked around to make sure that no one was around. He looked at me up and down and I was worried that he knew who I was. He walked around me and stopped right in front of me.
"I know who you are so don't try anything." Anthony said furiously.
"I don't understand. What do you mean?" Katherine said strongly not trying to show any fear.
