The Lycan

Chapter 5

Matthew looked up at the cabin when they arrived.

"So uh, it's nice," Matthew said. "You said you just moved here?"

"Yeah, actually two weeks ago I think?" Katie said. She walked ahead up to the door. "So, can you really tell me how you know him? When did you guys first meet, was he always here?"

Katie looked at Matthew, who was frozen in place, staring into the forest. She didn't know what he was looking at, but the rustling confirmed soon enough.

Nero was crouched in the bushes, and he stood up, his eyes wide with shock. Both were dead silent. Until Matthew finally spoke.

"N?"

Katie swore she could make out tears brimming in the werewolf's eyes, and she watched as he sprinted up to Matthew, wrapping his arms around him in a tight embrace. Matthew immediately hugged back, and suddenly laughed. Katie realized he had tears in his eyes as well. They knew eachother.

"Jesus, N," Matthew finally said, stepping back from their embrace. "Have you been here all this time?"

The dark werewolf shook his head. "It's Nero."

Matthew stared at his lost friend in awe. "Nero? I- oh!" He turned around to Katie. "I can explain this, Katie."

Katie was staring at Nero this time. He wasn't a wolf anymore. She cautiously stepped forward. "Are you okay?" She asked him.

Nero backed up as soon as he noticed Katie. That's right. She knows now. Nero looked down to the ground. "You shouldn't have followed me," he said quietly.

"I..." Katie trailed off. She wasn't sure what to say. Matthew took glances at them both.

"Can we, uh, talk inside? I can explain all this." He looked up to Nero. "I told her not to let anyone else know. Katie, can you promise me? Promise him?"

Katie nodded. "C'mon. Nero can come in too." She opened the door, with Matthew following behind. He looked at Nero, who was still standing away from them.

"Nero?"

Nero took a deep breath, and sighed. He reluctantly followed the two in the cabin.
