The Lycan

Chapter 6

"So, can you explain?" Katie asked as she sat at the table across from Matthew. Matthew looked to Nero, who was sitting in the corner of the room with his knees up against his chest. His eyes seemed blank, but looking at Matthew, he took a deep breath.

"She can't tell anyone. This will have to be between the three of us only. Can I trust you, Katie?" Nero had a serious, but also pleading look in his eyes. He seemed nervous. Katie nodded to him.

"I promise I won't tell anyone. You guys can trust me," Katie said.

Matthew sighed. "Okay," he said.

"Nero isn't exactly a werewolf, at least, not the kind you think. He's a genetically engineered lycanthrope. He's uh- he's basically the combination of human and wolf DNA. I honestly don't know how it was possible myself, really."

"Did you create him?" Katie asked.

"Oh, no," Matthew said quickly. "I could never be able to do something like that, I was just an assistant. The guy who made him was-"

Suddenly, Matthew was cut off by the sound of a door swinging open. He turned his head around to see Nero walking quickly out the door and outside.

"Nero?" Katie got up from her chair, but Matthew stopped her.

"You should stay here," Matthew said. "I'll go. It's getting late anyway, that's probably why he left. Look."

Katie looked out her window, and she noticed that the sun was beginning to set. "Oh, yeah..." Katie shuddered slightly at the memory of last night, remembering vividly the transformation she witnessed last night. "Um, are you going home? You can stay here if you want.

Matthew shook his head. "No, I'm alright," he said. "In fact, I wanna talk to Nero a bit more. We have... things to catch up on."

"But will you be okay? I mean, you know he's a werewolf! If you're there when he turns-"

"I know I'll be fine. He's never attacked me," Matthew said. "I've always been there for him when he changed back in the lab. Anyway, I don't wanna lose him, so I'll talk to you tomorrow? Please don't let anyone else know okay?" He called as he stepped out of the cabin and closed the door behind him.

Katie simply stood there in silence. Then, she sank back down into her chair, staring blankly at the door. "Holy shit," she muttered under her breath.
