Katherinas POV

Unaware of the turmoil she had caused, Katherina threw herself into her father's arms. She sobbed uncontrollably. She had tried to prepare herself for the rejection, she had nothing to counteract the heartbreaking pain that flooded her body. She felt her father's arms around her figure and found little comfort in the embrace. Her whole body trembled and shook as she breathed in her father's scent deeply. Fury kissed her forehead and mumbled soothing words. He looked helplessly at Maria Hill, who leaned down to Katherina. "Honey bee, what happened? Can you tell us? "

She sighed deeply and tried to collect herself, but her breathing was rapid and she stifled a sob and took a deep breath and looked up at her father. "They rejected me, I told them it was a mistake to come here and thanked them for the time after seeing the video surveillance from the garden and not a single one of them reacted in any way for several minutes. I didn't know where else to go. Daddy, it hurts so incredibly- what is it that makes me so unlovable?" Fury let out a deep breath, "Those lousy motherfuckers. Angel, there is not a single quality in you that is not lovable, do you understand? If these idiots can't see that, that's their problem. I cant even begin to imagine what youre going through right now, but dont let anyone talk you into that." Maria nodded in agreement. "Katherina, I dont want to doubt what happened, but over the last few years theyve been looking for their last soul mate. Could it be that it was a misunderstanding?" Katherina looked at Maria with shining green eyes. "Certainly not, only after accepting the bond they leave me like a piece of luggage, left in my room, as ordered but not picked up and then, after seeing my breakdown and i told them i was leaving them they didn't lift a fucking finger, i can tell you no one who wants me in their life, acts like this, damn it. "

Maria sighed deeply and gently stroked Katherina's hair. I understand sweetie, let's think about how things will go now. Do you want to go back to your lab in Tasmania? "

She took a deep breath and looked back and forth between her father and mother. After all, Maria was the closest thing to a mother. "No, I don't want to go back, I understand that this is a complication, but I would like to stay in New York for a while, I just need a break."

She looked embarrassed at the floor, because neither of the two had ever needed a break and she was afraid that they would now see her as weak and unworthy. Fury put his index finger under her chin and lifted it so that she had to look into his shining eyes, "Rina, don't worry about it. I'm sorry for your heartache, but I'm also incredibly happy that you want to stay here. First of all it is important that you recover everything else we will clarify when you are a little better." She breathed a sigh of relief and got up and hugged her father stormily while Maria cleared her throat." What about me? Am I shoppped liver? "

Katherina smirked when she suddenly found herself in a group embrace that broke the bones, she grinned and felt the pain subsiding a bit, even if only imperceptibly, she was so incredibly grateful for her chaotic, unconventional family.

"Angel, do you want to stay here or do you want to go to our house?" - "Has my office been assigned to someone else?" Fury looked at her in disbelief. "You don't think I can accept anyone besides you? It's like you left it." He smiled at her and she breathed in with relief. "Then I'll retreat there first and lie down for a while." Surrendering to exhaustion, it felt like the last few hours had sucked the life out of her.

Katherina opened the door to her office, which was right next to Fury's and when she walked in, she felt the happy memories that she made here over the past 15 years flow through her. A faint smile crept onto her features. She went to one of the white high-gloss dressers and took out a cozy woolen blanket and went to the sofa with it. As soon as her head had touched the pillow, she drifted down to sleep.
