The Octonauts and the midnight rescue

Chapter-8: Rescued

Recap: Vanessa, thankfully, is not seriously hurt, but her hand is stuck under a pile of rocks, trapping her. Luckily, Zii returns with her Octo-compass, allowing her to contact the Octonauts for help. What will happen next? Read on to find out...

The sudden Octo-alert startled everyone. Vanessa's voice followed soon after, making everyone's eyes widen.

"Vanessa!" they all cried in unison.

The screen in the HQ flared to life, revealing Vanessa's sheepish face. "Hi," she said quietly.

"Finally me hearty! There ya are!" Kwazii cried. "We've been looking all over for ya!"

"Vanessa wherever are you?" Captain Barnacles asked worriedly. "And are you alright?"

"I guess I'm alright...sort of," Vanessa replied. "And I have no clue where I am," she added uncertainly.

"Don't you worry Van," Dashi interjected. " I've managed to track down your location with your Octo-compass! Sending it to you now Captain,"

"Well done Dashi," Captain Barnacles said, relieved. "Hang on Van, we're on our way,"

"Got it Dad!" Vanessa responded, just as her screen went black. "Finally, they're on their way," she turned to the anticipating dolphins.

"Excellent!" Zii cheered. "How do we get you out of here though?"

"Come over here Zii," Zelda said. "We'll both try to push the rocks over, maybe we can move them."

Both the dolphins put their heads to the rocks, putting all their might into moving the rocks away from Vanessa's hand. She bit her lip, trying her best to ignore the pain. She was most certain she had broken it.

Thankfully, Zii and Zelda were able to move the rock away from over Vanessa's hand, freeing it.

Vanessa swam up, supporting her arm in her other hand. Well, atleast now she was free.

A sudden whirring sound caught their attention. Vanessa looked up, spotting what looked like a big green fish in the distance. It was the Gup-A!

"Dad! Guys!" she cried, relief flooding through her. Finally!

The Gup stopped, and the Captain, Kwazii, Peso and Daniel swam out of it and towards her, Peso swimming instinctively faster than the rest. "Van! Are you alright?! Are you hurt?!" he asked worriedly, examining her all over.

He gently squeezed her arm, as if feeling it, and Vanessa hissed. "Flappity flippers, that feels bad..." he murmured, eyes wide. Hurriedly, he pulled out a bandage from his first aid kit. "I'll bandage it up for now, and when we get back to the Octopod, I'll check it completely," he said, quickly bandaging her hand up.

"Thanks Peso," Vanessa breathed, before she was suddenly engulfed in a hug. "Dad..?"

"You really had me worried Van..." Captain Barnacles murmured. "Never do that again, ok?"

"I won't Dad, I'm sorry..." she replied, slumping into his hold. Man, she was impossibly tired.

"Shiver me whiskers, lil matey! What happened here?" Kwazii asked, looking around. Vanessa pulled away from her dad, turning to the dolphins. "This is Zii and Zelda, and this is their home reef. Something disturbed those rocks up there, and there was a rockslide," she explained, which made the Octonauts stare at her. "And it isn't over yet, they're still rocks up there," she winced when she said that. "Vanessa and I spent forever trying to get all the creatures to safety, but I'm not sure if everyone is out," Zelda said slowly.

Captain Barnacles was already pulling out his Octo-compass. "Everyone," he announced.  "We have an emergency. Dashi, I need you to analyse this reef and find any creatures left behind, and Tweak, get the gup-X ready, we'll need it to transport all the creatures of this reef back to the Octopod until we find a new home for them,"

"Aye aye Captain!"

Peso was already swimming towards the clearing where all the rescued creatures were so he could tend to the injured ones, led by Vanessa. The others swam towards the reef to rescue the rest of the sea creatures.

"Octonauts, let's do this!"
