Chapter-1: Heading out

It was night above the sea. It was calm and quiet, and the water was still. The reefs were all empty, except for the occasional fish that swam by, either out hunting or just exploring. As they swam, they passed something orange and glowing. Some creatures were used to it, while the new ones were slightly frightened by it. There wasn't a need to be scared of it, though, for it was the Octopod, the home of the Octonauts, the fearless crew who protected the seas and oceans. As of now, they were all asleep, for it was 3 A.M.

The corridor was quiet, only the snores of some members could be heard. It was also empty, except for... a pair of pink ears?

These ears twitched around, trying to pick up any noise. Nothing.

"Phew..." Vanessa sighed. She scanned the room just to make sure. Nope. Nothing but darkness. She removed her octo-compass from her belt and put on its flashlight. A medium bright beam soon lit the pathway.

Tiptoeing down the corridor, she stopped at the Octo-shoot. Switching off the flashlight in her Octo compass and returning it to her belt, she jumped into the Octo-shoot and slid down to the launch bay.

                                                                                    X-O-X

Vanessa landed perfectly on her feet in the launch bay. Quickly, she lifted her head and looked at the small room there. Tweak was fast asleep under the covers. Vanessa smirked as she tiptoed forward. All she had to do was-

"Ow!" she exclaimed, holding her foot in her paws as she jumped around. Drat, she wasn't looking where she was going and had bumped her foot into one of the crates in the launch bay.

Almost, in a split second, Vanessa's head shot up, and she stood frozen to the spot, eyes stuck to Tweak's room.

Tweak, however, just muttered something in her sleep, and turned around in her bed, her back to the wall.

Vanessa stood there, just like that, as if she were posing for a picture. It took her a minute to understand Tweak hadn't woken up. She let out a huge sigh of relief and tiptoed to the Gups.

"There you are..." she said to her gup, the Gup-V (no, not the vegimals's gup, it's Vanessa's.) She ran a paw over its smooth metal body. She turned around, grabbed a set of oxygen tanks, and jumped into the Gup-V.

Vanessa liked to take her Gup out for rides all the time. She would always race Kwazii. Kwazii, despite being happy that he had someone to regularly race with, wasn't that pleased that Vanessa was able to win most of the time. Out of all the reasons, it was Vanessa's gift of driving that made her win most of the time. She could drive the gups well and fast. In all her three years of driving, Vanessa had probably wrecked the gups that she drove only twice. Tweak trusted her with the gups, but she wouldn't let her take it out so late, neither would the Captain. Nevertheless, Vanessa was used to sneaking out and going on rides.

Tweak had been fixing the Gup-V that morning. The engine needed to be changed. When Vanessa put it on, however, the headlights lit up, and the Gup started. Tweak was a quick worker. Looks like she finished up already, Vanessa thought to herself. Starting the Gup, she closed the windshield and drove it underwater.

The Octo-hatch opened and Vanessa was soon out in the open, calm waters of the sea. Only half-an-hour, she told herself, and I'll go back, return the Gup, and go back to sleep. Simple.

It was all quiet, not even the slightest ripple in the water. Vanessa sighed. It's so peaceful out here. What could go wrong now?

Little did she know, a LOT could go wrong...
