It felt like winter in Avonlea was never coming to its end, Gilbert and the Deightons were slowly moving on from John Blythe's passing, and the school was to start in the next couple of weeks, but Cassandra could care less about her little argument with the girls.
You see, Cassandra is a very prideful lady, some are to believe she got it from her mother, though the girl just can't back down from any fight when provoked.
So she was currently helping her mother with the chores, thinking the scene over, though not realizing her mistake. "Sweetie, I want you to take this to Gilbert. If I know that child, I know that he can't cook for the life of him," Her mother says as she handed the girl a hot casserole,
"It's lasagna and if he does need help with the house, please help him so," Her mother kissed her forehead before she nodded and got ready to take off.
The girl wore her usual violet dress coat with her scarf and hat, he wore her hair down and braided the top half, she hid the diamond necklace as she picked up her boots and sprinted downstairs,
"I'll be going now!" She announced while she carried the casserole,
"Be safe!" Her mother replies as she went out the door and hurriedly walked to Gilbert's house to avoid the cold snow.

As she arrived at his house, she didn't bother knocking and just went straight in to be met by the curly-haired boy wincing as he tried to aid his bruised face.
"Gilbert Blythe! What on Earth happened to you-?" She exclaimed as she quickly puts down the casserole and removed her gloves to help the boy.
"What happened here?" She asked with a sharp tone as she pulled down Gilbert's hand from his face and got herself cotton and disinfectant.
"Billy Andrews," Gilbert muttered, avoiding her eyes.
Cassandra clicked her tongue as she dabbed the cut beside his eyes, "Ow!" The boy exclaimed, "Hold still, or else It'll hurt more." She said sternly, Gilbert groaned as she dabbed the cotton again, bringing down a wince.
"Did you get a few punches on him, at least?" The girl asked, easing the tension, "Of course, I started it." Gilbert smirked, though Cassandra wasn't as proud as he was as she dabbed the cotton a bit harshly, "Ouch!" Gilbert shouts, "And you're proud you got yourself into a fight-?" She scolds,
"Why did it start anyway?" She queries as the boy rolled his eyes, "He started calling me bud, then talked bad about you." He confessed,
"And what did the nut head say about me?" She continues as she applied a small bandage over his bruise and moved to his lip,
"Stuff." He avoided, "What did he say, Gilbert?" Cassandra repeated adding a stern tone in her voice,
"Ugh- just some things about how you're too confident for your own good that one day it'll bite you back and he'll find you begging him for help or something. I don't know my vision fogged and I started attacking him." He huffed as she dotted the small clot that had formed on his lips,
"So what? You aggressively attack people now?" She bores, "I wouldn't say I was attacking him aggressively, I was just defending you- and myself." He groaned as he dapped his lips with alcohol,
Cassandra sighed disappointingly at Gilbert as she put down the cotton and lightly slapped his face, "That'll heal soon, just don't show your face to mom... She might just bust your eardrums with her scolding." Cassandra tipped which Gilbert nodded,
"I passed Marilla on my way home," Gilbert mentioned as Cassandra prepared the table, she huffed as a pile of dishes were stacked on the sink, "She said father and her were acquainted once, he told her to go with him in his travels." Gilbert continued as Cassandra put down the plates and forks,
"Though she said she had obligations she couldn't escape. Then she went on about how I can always come to them for help." He finished as Cassandra sliced the lasagna and gave him a piece, "Thank you," Gilbert muttered as they ate,
"That was nice of her," Cassandra smiled, "I also heard that you and Ruby fought." He mentioned, "Where'd you learn that trash from? Billy?" The girl faked a laugh,
"Indeed. So, are you going to tell me what happened?" He squinted his eyes, "It was yesterday when they brought you that shepherd's pie, anyways what happened to that?" She tried to change the subject though Gilbert just gave her an unimpressed look,
"I gave it to some kids at the street- you know I don't like shepherd's pie, and don't change the subject." He answered, "Ugh, fine. Well, it wasn't just Ruby. Diana was there too... It's just confusing is all, they began avoiding and not talking to me just before my birthday. They didn't even greet me on my birthday! It infuriates me is all," The blonde explained,
Gilbert smirked as he put down his fork,
"I'm not the only kid starting fights then, aye?" Gilbert laughs as Cassandra glared at him, "Oh! And before I forget," He smiles as he pulled out a bouquet composed of roses, irises, and lavender from his bag,
"I wanted to give you this," He smiled, "For what?" Cassandra asked as she took the beautiful flowers, "I'm still courting you, aren't I?" Gilbert replied, sending the girl into a spiral as she gently put down the bouquet to give him a sweet kiss,
"You're sweet but an idiot, Blythe." She joked, "I'll take what I can get," Gilbert laughed,
The girl smiled for a moment before saying, "Gil...please promise me that you won't leave me." With eyes filled with love and trust, Gilbert couldn't bring her down, he just couldn't. "I won't. I promise."
So he lied.
