As George and y/n sat alone in complete silence, George started wondering about how y/n truly felt about him. She always seemed to be playing hot and cold with him, and he didn't know why. He had always thought about this but never dared to ask in case of her being on a mean streak.

y/n turned to look at him to find his eyes already on her seems to be in deep thought. He was staring at her so intensely she needed to know what he was thinking.

"George? Are you ok?" His head came back to this reality, and his eyes fluttered, adjusting to the light.

"Oh yeah, just deep in thought." He chuckled a bit and refocused on the work.

"Uh, ok, well, do you know what muggles call-" George interrupted her before she could finish what she was saying.

"Do you like me? Like as a person? Like, do you just put up with me because of our friends because I can never tell?" y/n sat there for a moment, trying to figure out what to say.

"Of course I like you, Weasley. You're my friend; that's why I put up with you." She snickered at her remark a bit and went back to her work. George smiled slightly but was saddened by her calling him Weasley, something he had thought they had dropped in year 3. But even though it wasn't his favorite, he still loved every moment he got with her even though he didn't know why. It didn't feel like a crush, but it also didn't feel like a friendship anymore.

Like it was second nature to him, he moved closer to her, placing his hand next to hers and interlocking their pinky fingers. y/n enjoyed the small embrace. She wasn't lying about liking him. She did, even if she didn't know in what way. She likes her friends and the people around her, but when she looks at George, it's a different type of like. It always had been, but she could never place it; that's what made her hate him so much.

George pulled his eyes off his paper to see her now looking out into space. He didn't say a word, just smiled and looked down at their interlocked pinkies.
