Months later...
"But what makes you think that what lurks out there in the grand vastness of space isn't as awe-inspiring as the other realms that Raiden speaks of."
Kuai gave a nice, small chuckle, his fingers brushing against the hard, smooth stone stairs that him and Hanzo sat on as they gazed at the cloudy skies.
"Because, unlike the vastness of space, we can much more easily traverse and see what each realm holds. We've witnessed the equivalent of Hell. I'm sure the other realms are much more mind-blowing than any planet that's out there."
"Still... Curiosity has made me wonder what else is out there. Whether there's more life besides the ones in each realm. Whether there's something bigger than we can comprehend."
"Considering we're being trained by a Thunder God, I'd say there's probably not much else that's stronger out there." Kuai said with a chuckle.
"Surely there's got to be a bigger fish out there."
"Like?"
"Maybe a Titan or something? I could have sworn I had seen something mentioned like that in one of the scripts Raiden has stored in the temple's library."
Kuai felt a sweat begin to break. "A Titan? What kind of Titan did you read about?"
"If I recall correctly, it was a time-bending one."
Crap. This isn't good.
"I'm sure it's just a legend."
"Possibly..." Hanzo said, though he paused for a few moments, before sighing lightly, his breath coming out as mist. "But, I do wish a being like that really did exist. Maybe then they'd be able to rewrite history somehow. Perhaps rewrite it so that I could have my family with me still."
Kuai Liang wrapped an arm around the ninja in a comforting way.
"If I had powers like that, I'd do all that for you in a heartbeat."
"That'd be great... yet I know it would probably mean we wouldn't cross paths. We wouldn't connect and put each other's differences aside."
"I'd sacrifice our connection in a heartbeat if I meant it could bring back your wife and child."
...
"Don't take that the wrong way though" Kuai chuckled nervously as he corrected what he thought was a rude comment. Hanzo gave a pained smile, before looking up at the clouds above them once again. He felt a tiny drop of rain hit his face, the drop quickly absorbing into his smooth, warm, olive skin.
"I never thought I'd be here like this..." Hanzo began, his voice a low, yet bittersweet in its tone. "I expected to die that night when you and your brother fought for the Map of Elements. I expected to be tortured for eternity within the Lin Kuei's walls. I never expected myself to be housed within a great sanctuary, with people I am slowly finding myself more comfortable around now."
Kuai cocked an eyebrow, his smirk showing his pride towards Hanzo's progress. He planted both hands onto the damp stone stairs again, as he felt a light drizzle pick up now.
"I never would have left you in that hellhole, even if Bi-Han had attempted to push back against my rebellion. You didn't deserve anything you were dealt."
Kuai paused for a moment, releasing a sigh that froze the drizzle around his mouth.
"I really wish I could make you happy. I wish I could bring back your family so that you don't ever have to feel the pain you're dealing with right now."
