Chapter 2: How Big Is The R.P.D?

You looked ahead and saw a computer, your mom saw it too and you walked over to it. She turned it on and security cameras popped up. "Come on, Chris, where are you?" your mom asked, talking more to herself than to you. You then see a police officer shooting a zombie, in one of the hallways. "They're inside too" you say. "David! Marvin! You there!? I found a way out! It's in here! Send reinforcements! East Hallway!" the officer said, fending off a zombie. A map then popped up on the screen showing you where he was. "We're gonna help him, right?" you ask her. "Yeah just don't leave my side okay?" she says and you nod. You go over to a lever that heads the way the officer was, you pull it and the gate opens just barely. Your mom crawls under first and then you go after her, you now have blood all over your front side and it makes you want to gag a little. There's a box for a fuse which you assume would turn the lights on but you'd have to look for that later. You walk down the hallway until you reach a fallen down cabinet, you help your mom push it back against the wall. You continue until you see a couple of bodies and a lot of blood. You then heard the police officer screaming, "OPEN UP! HURRY! OPEN UP! OPEN THIS GODDAMN DOOR!". You walk into some sort of office and see a closed gate. Your mom takes one side of the gate and you take the other, trying to open it as the man screams for you to hurry. "Here, give me your hand!" your mom says as he stick his hands through the little opening. You take his other arm and try to pull him through. Blood then spurts back up at you as he screams in pain. You pull his upper half through as it detaches from his lower half. You see his guts and a lot of blood, you turn and puke from the shock. Your mom grabs the little book that was in the officers hand and helps you get back to your feet. "Come on y/n/n, let's get back to the main area" she says and grabs your hand. A zombie then busts through the door and she shoots it until it falls. You make a run back to the main area and your mom stuns any zombies that get in your way. You quickly slide under the gate and see another police officer. Your mom is right behind you and you take her hand helping her. A zombie then grabs her and slowly climbs her body, you take your foot to it and kick it's head in until it lets go. It grabs your foot though and all of the blood makes you slip, hitting your head on the ground in the process. The police officer then comes over, pulling you away and crushing the zombies head hard underneath the gate. You sit up slowly and rub the back of your head, you're pretty sure you gave yourself a good ole concussion when you open your eyes and everything feels dizzy and you get a shooting pain to your head. "You guys alright?" the officer asked. Your mom looked over to you and quickly came to your side. She saw your dazed state and cupped your cheek asking, "what is it sweetheart?". "I hit my head hard, I think it might be a concussion" you said and massaged the back of your head. "Can you stand?" she asked. "Yeah I think so" you said and attempted to. You wobbled a bit but regained your balance. "You guys are safe...for now. Marvin Branagh" the officer said and clutched his wound on his torso. "Thanks" your mom says. "Obviously someone taught you well" he said to your mom. "Yeah, I know how to take care of myself, and the people I love" she said, looking at you for that last part. Marvin took you to a couch and took the computer with him. He started talking about everything that had happened so far. "So nobody knows what caused this?" your mom asks. "There's a lot of theories...but all I know for sure is that this place is crawling with zombies" he answers back. "Yeah. You're telling me..." you mutter under your breath. Your mom grabs the walkie talkie Marvin gave her. "Hey, hey ...keep that on... Just in case" he says. "We're not gonna be around long. Once we find Chris, we're outta here" your mom says messing with the walkie talkie. "You're really Chris's sister?" Marvin asks. You turn around and show him the name on the back of your jacket. "Yeah. Why? Did you find something?" your mom asks and goes over to him. "He's on vacation. Europe, I think... Left weeks ago" Marvin says. "No there's no way, uncle Chris would've made it a point to tell us" you say in disbelief. "That's...that's great news" your mom says. "Well, I've got more for you... Looks like there might be a way out through this secret passageway..." Marvin says and points to it on the little book, handing it to your mom. As Marvin and your mom continue to talk you notice him in pain from his wound. You take off your jacket and slip your undershirt off, you put your jacket back on and go over to him. You tie it around his torso, tightening it as much as possible to help blood loss. "Th...thanks kid" he says. He hands your mom his knife and then sits back down, looking over the security cameras. You pull her off to the side and stare at her in frustration. "What?" she asks, genuinely confused. "If Chris would've told us, we wouldn't even be here!" you said, clearly angry. Your mom sighs and says "I know and you're right but maybe he just couldn't tell us". "Mom, I...I can't lose you" you say and tear up a little. She hugs you tight and kisses your head, "you're not going to". You pull away, wiping your tears and taking a deep breath. "Here take this, just in case" she says and gives you the knife Marvin gave her. You take it and clip it onto your belt. You see a panel box with yellow tape on it, you cut it with your knife and pull the lever inside of it, opening the gate next to you. You walk through the room and into a door that leads you to a dark and bloody hallway. You see a police officer at the end of the hallway, his radio goes off "this is 73-Bird -- for rescue. --heading east -- River. Touchdown at R.P.D. ---- minutes". You get closer and see the officers face is chewed off. You then hear a noise coming from the other way and your mom points her gun. You walk around the zombie that was hanging. You make your way to double doors and you're in some sort of break room. You find a map and that the next door is chained up. You see another exit though and head up that way. Your mom has to help you because she's overprotective and doesn't want you to hurt yourself due to your concussion. You see a zombie at the vending machine and your mom takes him out. Your mom goes through the different rooms gathering supplies and reading notes. You then head up the stairs, passing a zombie on your way. There's one room on the second floor that you can get to but you can't get through it yet. You need some sort of wheel to turn off the steam. On the third floor you find a blue spade looking key. When you're walking through the hallway on the third floor you see something pass over the window and make some sort of noise. "What was that!?" your mom asks. You then hear some glass breaking but don't see anything. Your mom finds a note telling you about what you just heard. "They're called lickers, they're blind but if you see one you have to walk, they see through their ears" your mom explains to you. You walk into the only other room on the third floor and see a closed off gate. One of the medallion thingies you need to get out of there is behind the closed off gate. You're going to have to find something the get through it. You exit through a different door into what looks like a library, the walkie talkie then goes off. "Claire, y/n, it's Marvin. How fast can you get back here?" he asks. "Why, what's up?" your mom asks back. "I've got something to show you, it's important" he says back. "Alright. We're on our way" she answers and then puts the walkie talkie away. You see a zombie eating another zombie right near the ladder so you say "uhh let's take the stairs instead". Your mom looks down and says "noted". At the bottom of the stairs you go through a door to your left. "Mom, you can get one of the medallions here" you say as she walks through the door. "Good searching y/n" she says and high fives you. You smile and watch as she looks through the book for the code. She puts it in and grabs the medallion. "Here you can have it, it'll be safer with you" she says and hands it to you. "Thanks for trusting me mom" you say and smile. She ruffles your hair and then you go back through the library to the locked door. Your mom opens it with the key you got a few minutes ago. You see that you're back in the main area and make your way over to Marvin. "There you are... Come here" he says and switches the camera on the computer. "What is it?" you ask. "Take a look" he says. You both look to see Leon, outside of the R.P.D. "oh my god, he made it?" your mom questions, in shock. "You know him?" Marvin questions. "Yeah. It's Leon...uhh, Kennedy, I think?" your mom says. "Ah, the rookie. Thought he looked familiar. You can make it to that courtyard through the second floor, east side" Marvin says. "Ok. Thanks Marvin. We're on it" your mom says. "Jeez how big is this place?" you say, a bit astonished at it's size. Marvin chuckles and coughs a little. You're glad Leon made it though, he seemed really nice. You were happy to go see him.
