(Trigger Warning ⚠️ - talk of alcohol and physical abuse)

You felt the tram start to move and a robotic voice say "this tram is bound for NEST. Do not exit until the final destination". You yawned and looked over to Sherry, she was shaking a little so you wrapped your jacket around her. You sat back on the stairs but with your back against the wall, facing Sherry. She started making painful noises and your mom went over to her. You just put your head down and closed your eyes. "Hey, are you OK?" your mom asked her. "This jacket's so warm" Sherry said. You lifted your head and spoke, "I got it for my birthday, it's supposed to be lucky". "I don't know what I'd do without you two" Sherry said, looking between you and your mom. "Are you kidding me? You were doing just fine without me until I came alone and got you into all sorts of trouble. I have something of yours" your mom said and took out Sherry's pendant. "I don't want it" Sherry said. "Really? Why not? It's so pretty" your mom asked back, confused. "It-It's from my mom... For my birthday, last year. All I really wanted was for her to be home more" Sherry said. That caught your attention, you understood her pain. So you spoke up again, "I understand how you feel. My birth parents were always too busy for me. They both worked, and if my mom didn't have dinner on the table by the time my dad got home he'd hit her. Then he'd get drunk, and hit me. When I was younger, my parents gave me a stuffed animal, I carried it around everywhere. I didn't want to take it at first when Chris rescued me, but I did. It's the last thing I have of them, maybe it wasn't all great times but I'm glad I still have it. It's a little piece of them, when they were better people". You didn't make eye contact but you could tell your mom was looking at you. "You hold on to it for now" she said and your mom handed it to you. Sherry started making more painful noises and your mom said "hey, Sherry. Come here". Your mom sat her up and looked at her eye, "hey...hang in there, OK?". The robotic voice came back and said "now arriving at NEST". Your mom picked Sherry up and carried her again like before as the tram came to a stop. You sighed and stood up, stretching out a little. You followed behind your mom and into the underground lab. When you got to the doors the bracelet on Sherry's wrist opened them. Another robotic voice said "for your safety, stand clear until the doors are fully open". When the doors opened you made your way into a room where Sherry could rest while you got her treatment. Your mom set her down and you went over to a computer and read an email that said something about an antiviral agent. "There's an antiviral agent, that's probably what Annette was talking about" you said. "Okay, good. Hey...hey Sherry... We gotta go. You stay right here, though. OK? We'll be back soon. I promise" your mom said and took off Sherry's bracelet, putting it on her wrist instead. You followed her out of the room but she stopped when the door closed and looked at you. "Are you okay?" you ask, confused why she stopped. "You never told me that story, about what happened to you" she said gently. You looked down and said "I wanted you to want me". She put a hand on your shoulder, "why wouldn't I?". "Because who wants a kid with baggage?" you asked genuinely. She pulled you into a hug and said "I don't care what you have or don't have, I'll always want you, you're my son". You hugged her tight and then she let go, "let's go finish this". You followed her into a dark hallway and through a room full of zombies. You dodged then since they were slow to get up, and you made your way up a ladder and through a vent system. Your mom caught you when you had to exit the vent system and shot a zombie in the next hallway. You noticed that there were doors with light blue on them but the chip in the bracelet was green. When you went into the next room there was a dead person's arm hanging out of a compartment and it had the blue chip in it. Your mom took it and put it in the bracelet so you could now get through blue doors. You went back out into the hallway and through the blue door which brought you back the way you came. There was a blue door at the end of the hallway, past the room where Sherry was in. You came into a giant, open room with two different pathways that all attached at the center. It looked like an elevator but you needed a purple chip to access it. Your mom used the bracelet to send out a pathway to the middle platform. "The antiviral agent's in the west area" you said, pointing to it. Right now you only had access to the East area, so your mom used the bracelet to send out the pathway to it. "Let's hope the chip for the west area is here" you said and walked across the bridge. You made it to a room with a big window. There was a guy in a yellow hazmat suit pinned to the window, you saw he was holding the purple chip you needed. You had to find a way to get him unpinned. Then you went into a hallway that had tons and tons of green vines everywhere. "This doesn't look good" you whispered. "Just follow my lead" your mom whispered back. These green plant monsters dropped down from the ceiling so your mom took out her grenade launcher and shot them with flame rounds. That seemed to work the best on them. That hallway lead you to a room with a blue map and a code that needs to go in to unlock something. Your mom pushed a button on something and it started beeping. Then you heard a robotic voice say "dispensing solution now". Then a cartridge came out of the device and your mom took it. You went out into the room where the solution was dispensed. It was a big open space with tons of plants and vines. You found a room that said drug testing lab on the door. "We must get the solution to make the plants drop that guy in there" you said pointing to the locked device in the corner. "That's probably what the code is for in the last room" your mom said. You followed her back out to the main room and saw a hatch with a code on it. Your mom looked at it for a minute and then went and put it in. The hatch unlocked and then opened. You went down first and your mom followed after. You made your way into a dark hallway and into a room where your mom took care of some zombies so they wouldn't be in your way. You picked up a trophy and you found a code on the bottom. "Mom look! It's the code so we can get the solution" you said, kind of excited you found it yourself. "Good job kiddo" she said back and smiled at you. She walked down a different part of the hallway when suddenly two lickers fell through the ceiling and made you jump. She killed them with a couple flame rounds and you took a deep breath. You followed her up some stairs and she took care of a couple zombies and one of those plant monsters. She grabbed a device that would go in the wall downstairs. "We'll go back down there but we have to grab the solution first" your mom said. You found out it was just one big loop so you made your way to the place to put the code in. Your mom went to the room with the cartridge as you put the code in. As she did that you went back downstairs with the device to put in the wall. You played with the nobs on the sides a bit until the line matched up with the other one and then put it in the wall. All of the lights flicked on and soon your mom joined you. "Teamwork" she said and you high fived her. You then went into a room that was really cold. You got instant goosebumps. Your mom put the solution into another device that froze it. Once it was done and your mom took it the lady robot voice from before said "cooling complete". You made your way back to the greenhouse control room and your mom put in the solution. "Yes, we did it!" you said excitedly. Your mom giggled a little bit. The solution was dispensed and the guy with the purple chip fell down onto the ground. The robot lady then said "warning: you have dispensed a dangerous solution without authorization. Your actions have been logged and you may be subject to disciplinary measures". You then followed your mom to the chip and she placed it into the bracelet. As you were walking back though, a few plant monsters generated and took you off guard. One was in front of your mom and one was behind you. The one behind you grappled you with a vine and pulled you towards it. "Mom!" you yelled and she stabbed it in the head with a knife. It let go of you and you crawled out of it's way. She shot them both with flame rounds and they fell to the ground. She helped you up off the ground and checked you over. Another one spawned so she took your hand and you both made a run for it. You stopped running when you left the east area and went back to the middle platform. You stopped for a second to catch your breathe. "We're almost out of here y/n/n, we can do this" your mom said and smiled at you. You smiled back at her and then followed her as she sent out the pathway to the west wing. When you got into the west wing you gave your mom the decive so she could put it to the right setting and put it in the wall. The power then turned on and you saw what looked like a testing room. You went through a room with hazmat suits hanging and then into a room that sprayed you with water and dried you, it was sort of like a car wash for people. You went through another big area until you finally made it to where the antiviral agent was. There was a computer with information about a bunch of different test subjects but it was too long for you to read. The antiviral agent was in a container but the container was locked. "Dammit" your mom said. But you looked down and realized there was a place to put something in. You then had a thought and took Sherry's pendant out of your pocket, you put it in and it fit perfectly. The container then opened and your mom grabbed the antiviral agent. "Great thinking kiddo" your mom said and smiled at you. You felt proud of yourself for figuring that out. You were making your way back to get Sherry when you hear a loud crash and turn to see the monster from before but bigger. "Your ass again!?" your mom asked. Annette came walking beside you, "William! This ends NOW!". She shot him with an acid round and he fell to the ground. All three of you started walking towards him. "What the hell is this thing!?" your mom asked Annette. "That was my husband. I should've killed him when I had the chance... I don't know why... I just...couldn't do it" Annette explained. "He was your husband" your mom said, answering her inner question. "Honestly...we were more married to our work than each other" Annette said. "But what about Sherry--how could you just leave her all alone? And while Racoon City burned to hell" your mom asked. "I couldn't let my daughter grow up in a world with the G-virus in it" Annette said. They didn't seem to notice but William started to wake up again. He was about to grab Annette so you lunged forward trying to push her but he still got to her first. You held onto his claw though and tried to pull it off of her. He swung his claw hard to the right and you slipped off, falling into the railing but the momentum sent you flying down to the floor underneath. You accidentally put one of your hands out to break your fall as instinct and you heard and felt your wrist snap. You screamed out in pain as tears flew out of your eyes. You grabbed your wrist with your other hand and cradled it. You then heard a warning sound and saw red flashing lights. The bridge started lowering and you saw William on it with your mom. She looked over to you with worry all over her face. You backed up into a corner hoping that he wouldn't be able to get to you. You sat there holding your broken wrist in your arm, letting out cries of pain as your mom fought William. Soon you heard the shots stop and William let out a monsterous cry. Your mom came running over to you and knelt down in front of you. She kissed your forehead, "why did you do that? You can't risk your life like that again". "It snapped" you said and showed her your wrist, you couldn't look at it, it made it worse. She took off her jacket and wrapped it around your wrist and arm, making it into a sling. "This will work for now, I'm going to get you out of here, we're almost there so just hold on" your mom said and helped you up. Your wrist was killing you and you still had tears on your cheeks but you needed to keep moving. You took the service lift up and made your way back to Sherry. When you got there Annette was sitting by the bed with her head down and Sherry was still laying there. "Hey!" your mom said to her. "I knew you'd make it. My mom needs help" Sherry said. Your mom shook her shoulder and asked "Annette?". Annette lifted her head, "Sh...Sherry... How are you?". "OK... But you don't look so good" Sherry said to her mom. Annette tried to get up and walk but she only made it a step before she was crumpling to the floor clutching her side. Your mom went over and tried to support her. "Mommy!?" Sherry asked out and sat up. "Hey, look at the screen. Oh, thank god" Annette said and kneeled to look at the screen. "So, Sherry's gonna be alright?" your mom asked hopefully. "She'll be weak for a little while but... Yes, she's free of the G-virus" Annette said. "Did you hear that?" your mom asked and smiled at Sherry. Annette then fell to her knees and layed on the floor, holding her side. Sherry got down next to her, "what happened to her?". "She was attacked by that monster--" your mom started to say but Annette cut her off. "Don't...Don't worry about me. Take my daughter...to safety" Annette said and handed the purple chip back to your mom. "I'm sorry, Sherry...for everything. Your life is what is important now--" Annette said and took Sherry's hand. You took a deep sigh and walked out of the room, not wanting to see this. You watched your parents die and you didn't want to see that happen to somebody else. Just then you heard a warning noise again and the robotic voice say "Attention: Unauthorized removal of a [Level 4] virus detected. Facility lockdown initiated. Self-destruct sequence will begin when lockdown is complete". "Shit" is all you could say. Your mom came out of the room and squeezed your shoulder, "we gotta go now". You ran to the elevator and your mom pressed the button to use it. The doors slid open and then closed when all three of you were inside of it. As it went down you could see the core of the building starting to fall apart. "Um, Claire...?" Sherry asked. "Yeah?" your mom asked back. "Thank you for being so nice to me... For helping me. I'm really glad I met the both of you" Sherry said. "Well we're really glad we met you too, Sherry" your mom said back, answering for the both of you. "But save your thanks until I get you out of this place" your mom said. You were gritting your teeth because of how much pain you were in. You took deep breaths to try and control the pain. The elevator got to the bottom level and the doors opened. You made it to another elevator but it was like a construction one. When you got to the bottom the robot voice announced there was only 10 minutes until detonation. You started to get anxiety and your stomach was hurting. One of those plant monsters spawned so you dodged passed it before it could grab you. You had to climb down a ladder but you let Sherry go ahead of you. You were a bit slower considering your wrist but you were running on adrenaline right now so you didn't care if you hit it on the ladder, you just wanted to get out of there. You made it to a door that was locked but Sherry saw a way for her to slip in and unlock it. Your mom took care of a couple of zombies while she did that but soon enough the door was unlocked and you were running through it. "I got it!" Sherry yelled. "Nice work Sherry" you said and ran past her. You dodged past some zombies and finally made it to a train. "We could probably use that to get out of here" you said to your mom. "Yeah, that's what I was thinking" your mom said back. You followed your mom into the train with Sherry behind you. Your mom grabbed a plug to get the train going. "What are you doing?" Sherry asked. "I gotta get this train moving. I need you to stay right here, OK?" your mom said to Sherry. "OK. I promise I won't move" Sherry said. Your mom nodded and then turned to you. "I don't like this" you said with a scared look on your face. She kissed your forehead, "I'm not leaving you, I promise. I love you kiddo, I'll be right back". "I love you too" you croaked out before tears welled up in your eyes. She gave you one last look and then left. You sat down next to Sherry and took a deep breath. She grabbed your good hand and held it, "we'll be out of here soon, don't worry". "Thanks Sherry" you said to her and smiled a little. There were a couple big shakes and you could hear what sounded like a fight going on outside. But with 6 minutes left to go on the self-destruct sequence your mom came through the door. You hugged her tight and felt okay again. You felt the train get set onto a pair of tracks. "It's OK, I'm here. We're getting outta here!" your mom said and then ran to the front of the train to start it. The back half of the train clicked to your part and then your mom pressed the lever forward to get the train going. You felt the train start to move fast out of there and you took a sigh of relief. "So what's the first thing you wanna do when we get outta here?" your mom asked. "I want to see where you live" Sherry said. "And I want to fix this" you said and lifted your arm. Your mom and Sherry laughed a little. "Right, that's first priority, then home" your mom said. Just then someone came through the doors. "Leon!?" your mom asked in disbelief. You were a little in shock yourself. "We made it..." Leon said. "Just like I said we would" your mom said back. "Who's this?" Leon asked, looking at Sherry. "This is Sherry" you introduced her to Leon. "OK" Leon said and smiled. Then there was a big shake. "Jesus" Leon said. "What was that?" your mom asked. "I don't know... I'll go. You take care of y/n and Sherry" Leon said. Soon the door broke off and you saw an even bigger William. He was so big it was just an eye and gross looking octopus limbs. "We've gotta lose that car!" your mom screamed. She opened the panel and kicked down the lever so the other part of the train would detach. Leon stabbed William's eye and then your mom helped him back into the other part of the train. William and the last part of the train was engulfed in flames and then was exploded. A while later the train took you out of Racoon City and you made it on to the main road. The sun was out and shining bright. You walked on your mom's right side, she was holding your good hand. Sherry was in between your mom and Leon. "So...are you guys, like, boyfriend and girlfriend?" Sherry asked. "No way!" you said loudly. Your mom giggled and Leon answered, "no, we're just, uh... Well, we actually just met...last night?". "Yeah... That would've been one helluva first date, though" your mom said. "Yeah, you have no idea--" Leon said. "Never happening" you said. "Look! He might be able to give us a ride" Sherry said and pointed in the distance. "What if it's not just the city?" your mom asked Leon. "Get Sherry and y/n outta here" Leon said. "Come on" your mom said and took you and Sherry's hands. Leon stood there waiting to see if the trucker was in distress. But it was obvious he was not when the trucker flipped Leon off. "So...is it over?" your mom asked. I don't know. But if it's not, we'll stop it. Whatever it takes" Leon said. "Yeah. You're damn right we will!" your mom said back enthusiastically. "Long as we stick together, we'll be fine. Come on" Leon said. Sherry took Leon's hand and your mom's hand and you took her other. "Hey! You guys can adopt me" Sherry said. You and your mom started laughing. "Adopt you?" your mom asked. "Hey, I could use a sister" you said and shrugged. "We can get a puppy!" Sherry said. "I second that!" you said. "A...puppy" your mom said. "And a parrot!" Sherry said. "Parrot...great" Leon said and laughed. You looked over at Sherry and said "a bunny too!". "Ooh yeah, a bunny!" Sherry agreed with you. "You two are gonna be a handful" your mom said and both her and Leon laughed. The four of you had a good conversation as you made your way back to civilization and into a better life.

The End!
