The street lights illuminate his figure as he stands still. He stands beneath it like it's a spotlight pointed at him. He's tall and built, and has his long, dark hair covering his face. He parts his hair slowly, revealing a wide smile creeping across his face. The silence of this empty street makes my ears ring.
He takes slow steps forward, looking right at me as he holds his hair apart. He runs right at me. I stay frozen as he runs to me as if there's an emergency. I'm able to break out of my trance just as he was short of a meter away.
He chases me all the way out to the other side of the neighborhood laughing, never seeming tired, not even a cent of sweat on his face. I turn to an unknown building and enter, knocking on a stranger's door, who was kind enough to let me in.
I check for the man out the window, and he stands there at the bottom with the same expression on his face. Unbothered, unchanged. He points behind me. I realize I failed to even get a glimpse of the stranger who let me in.
There he is. Another him, just a few inches away from me.
