They gleam hazel under sunlight as you stare into the distance, your hair every-so-slightly picked up by the soft breeze of the seashore. Your cape flutters like the leaves on the trees as it drags lightly behind you, its edges making faint lines on the sand.
You turn to look behind you as you hear little pitter-patters, realizing you've been followed by a puppy. Its body dark as as night, all but its nose, with a small patch of cream. You approach to pick it up as you wander off into the distance.
You hear nothing more but your breaths, your steps, your cape, and the puppy. You stroke it gently as you sit just by the farthest reach of the waves, looking off into the horizon.
You await nothing and no one, you are here to adore the sunset with this puppy you'd found following you. It falls asleep on your lap as you stroke it, and you let it be. You put your cape over it as if it were a blanket, and you take the other side to cover yourself.
This is what you call company, and nothing defeats it.
