Prince Alexander's POV

⬆️ Prince Lucɑs

After dinner when the eligibles went to their bedrooms to rest for the night as well as the children, Alex parents were entertaining the older guests in the living room as Alex quietly snuck out of the palace to the stables to visit Hercules who he unfortunately hasn't seen in the past few days because of all the things that were happening.

"Hey cuz, how are you doing?" He felt a hand clamp firmly down on his right shoulder and he looked over that shoulder to see his cousin brother, Prince Lucas. The son of his father's younger sister and a Duke from Bulgaria.

"I'm hanging in there." Alex chuckled.

Lucas pats his back then looks at the horse. "My, is this Hercules? His grown so much since the last time I saw him."

"Yep, it's him and I felt the same way when I came back home."

"What were they feeding him? He is huge."

Alex chuckled at his cousin brother's awe of his horse. "The normal stuff that they feed the others but I guess it has something to do with his mix breed."

"Mmm." Lucas hummed and leaned back against one side of the stable wall, with his arms folded across his chest.

He was a foot taller than Alex with bronze  coloured hair, grey eyes, the same lean but athletic physique as Alex with a light tan complexion. Although he was three years older than Alex, they grew up together and were thick as thieves. They knew how the other one was feeling without evening having to ask them and they also knew each others deepest secrets.

"I see that Raquel is here." Lucas said suggestively looking down at his shoes than back up to Alex, who was brushing Hercules.

Alex breathed deeply out of his nose but nodded his head. "Yes, she was chosen because she has known me since we were little and my parents think that we are still on good terms...and I think my mom is secretly hoping that I will choose her."

"You mean, they don't know about you twos dating back when you were teenagers then breaking up." Alex gave Lucas an unimpressed look when he brought the past up and he quickly raised his hands in surrender. "I'm just saying."

"Yeah...I really don't know how to do this. I've never done anything like this before." Alex released a exasperated breath.

"Just think of it like speed dating." Lucas suggested.

"You know I've never done that before. I'm just not that type of guy...I prefer asking a girl who I fancy out for a date then getting to know her there. In a location of our choosing away from the prying eyes of the world but now most of the world's media attention will be on us. Its a bloody invasion of privacy."

"I know Alex and I'm sorry, but you know me. I am always honest with you no matter what, even if it hurts or seems blunt I do them from the good of my heart." Lucas began, sincerely. Looking his cousin right in the eyes. "...Unlike me and our other cousins, you were born to uncle Stefan, the first born which will automatically make you the next heir of the country so you can't really expect to have a life outside this palace."

"What if I don't want to be the King?" Alex muttered more to himself but Lucas heard it.

"Alex." Lucas sighed.

"I can give my position to Brianna." He continued.

"You can but no one has ever done that before." Lucas told him. "I love Brie as my own little sister, but we don't know how the outcome will be like. You've been taught and trained ever since you could walk on how to rule the country, she hasn't."

"You're right...I'm just being stupid." Alex groaned and then ran his hands down his face as Hercules trotted over to the side to drink some water. "This is my duty and responsibility as the first born of the King."

Lucas gave his cousin a sad smile then pushed off of the wall across from Alex and Hercules. "Come on, let's go inside. You need to rest tomorrow will be a busy day."

"Don't remind me. Goodnight boy." Alex let out a dry chuckle then he and Lucas walked out of Hercules stable.
