A/N: My HC is that Remus is Jewish because the fancast is Andrew Garfield and he's Jewish. Please don't be mad, I just thought it would be a funky thing to add.

Remus started to walk down the stairwell to lunch, when Sirius ran up behind him.
"Hey Remy, where you going?" The taller boy asked.
"Remy?" Remus replied confused.
"Oh, I wasn't aware it was illegal to nickname your friend." Sirius declared dramatically.
"Don't be so dramatic. I'm going to lunch, if you'd like to join me." Remus replied sensibly.
"That's where I'm going too, so yes I will join you." Sirius said in response.

The two got to the great hall and sat in their usual spot at the Gryffindor table t which Peter, James, and Lily had already been sitting.
The two of them took a seat next to each other and Sirius and James began to speak about quidditch, like usual.
"So, I heard you two have detention today. What's it for? Did you hex Slughorn?" James asked enthusiastically.
"Remus was drawing and I was talking." Sirius replied with his usual lopsided grin.
"Really? That's so boring." James asked throwing his head back dramatically.
"Do you have detention? I know you were gonna hex McGonagall." Sirius asked curiously.
"I was going to but Peter is a twat and wouldn't let me." James replied with a disapointed voice, to which Peter replied with a simple "Hey!"
"Well Remy, I guess we'll be alone." Sirius said with a smirk Remus tried to ignore.
"I guess so." Remus replied quickly.
"Why aren't you eating anything?" James asked Remus looking concerned.
"I don't like eating. Also I'm not hungry." Remus replied, picking at his fingers. James shrugged in response and continued eating a sandwich.

After lunch was over, Sirius and Remus went outside to sit under the same tree from yesterday.

"We have a week til Halloween." Sirius said out of nowhere.
"Oh yeah, you're right." Remus replied.
"What are you gonna go as?" Asked Sirius.
"I'm probably not gonna dress up." Remus replied, still picking at his fingers.
"Why not?" Sirius asked witha confused look on his face.
"Dunno. Just never have." Remus replied with a shrug.
"You should. It would be cute." Sirius said bluntly.
Remus went noticeably scarlet at the comment.
"You think so? What are you going as?" Remus asked, putting his head in his knees.
"I'm gonna be a vampire, but like, sexy." Sirius replied with a grin, making Remus laugh in response.
"Yeah, yeah you should do that." Remus said whipping tears out of his eyes.
"Well, I guess we should go to detention now." Sirius said standing up.

They went to the castle and up to McGonagall's room (the teacher holding detention.)
"You two are the only ones with detention right now so come follow me." McGonagall said leading them to an unused classroom.
"You will be going through these boxes of textbooks and determine which ones are in good enough condition to keep, and which ones should be thrown away." She explained to them as Remus nodded and Sirius didn't pay attention.

After she left the two opened the first box, and started taking out all the books and placing them on the floor.
"Are we really gonna do this? Normally when I get detention I just sit in here for a while than leave." Sirius asked while Remus started going through books.
"I guess we don't have to." Remus said, unsure how to reply.
"Do you think I can smoke in here?" Remus asked pulling out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.
"Probably not, but they're not gonna check on us so go for it." Sirius replied whie laying on the floor, looking at the ceiling.
"Where are you going for holiday break?" Sirius asked as they were discussing their lives.
"I'm probably gonna stay here. I'm not too fond of my mother." Remus replied honestly.
"Same. I mean I don't like my father either, but my mother is an insufferable bitch." Sirius replied with a chuckle.
"My mom is nice enough, but she hasn't been the same since my father passed. I mean I know it's hard but my dad died and she never really cared to check up on me. We used to celebrate Chanukah every year and now we haven't since he died." Remus said, taking the cigarette away from his lips.
"Oh man I'm sorry. Yeah that sucks a lot." Sirius replied sympathetically. Remus shrugged in response.
"It happened like two years ago. I try not to think about it but when I do it can be difficult." Remus stuttered to Sirius' sympathy.
Sirius moved over to sit next to Remus.
"If you need someone to talk to I'm always here." Sirius replied. Remus found it strange that he wasn't sporting his usual grin.
Remus started to tear up a bit.
"Really? Thanks, I-I really appreciate it." Remus replied whipping away his tears.
"Don't cry. It's really not a big deal. That's what friends do." Sirius said giving him a hug as Remus attempted to calm down.

"You gonna be alright? Sirius asked after a minute.
"Yeah. Yeah I'll be fine. It's fine." Remus replied, slightly flustered by Sirius' reaction.
"I'm sorry. I don't do this usually." Remus said whipping tears away in embarrassment.
"No, you're fine. Take your time." Sirius replied, putting his hand on Remus' leg, sending a shiver through the shorter boy's body.

A/N: This was kinda just a chapter to build the characters and what not. In the next couple chapters I'm gonna add some tension between Sirius and Remus, so that it doesn't feel forced. Hope you liked this chapter (even though it was under 1000 word.)

xx, Tate
