Once again, I've reached an episode where there really is no way to write it from Y/n's perspective unless I have her with Morgana the whole time but that would just make Y/n's knowledge of the world too great and the whole point of this is that she has no clue what's going on. Anyway, I shall now do the thing where I give a Spark Notes summary of the episode so I don't miss anything. If you read Past Mistakes then you know why.

Anyway, on we go!

Gwen's father, Tom is paid to help a sorcerer named Tauren. Tom didn't know he was a sorcerer but he is known to the king as the leader of a group of renegade sorcerers that want to kill Uther. Tauren is using a magical stone to turn lead into gold. When they find Tauren and Tom in the forge and Tom is holding a large piece of gold, they arrest Tom for conspiring with a sorcerer. Morgana finds the stone that Tauren dropped when Tom was arrested in the blacksmith and keeps it in her room.

Outraged at the injustice, Morgana steals the dungeon key from Arthur's room and sneaks it into Tom's possession. Knowing that he'd be killed no matter what he said at the trial, Tom escapes but when they catch him, they kill him. Gwen is orphaned and Morgana is so angry with Uther that she argues with him more.

Tauren wants the stone back so he threatens to kill Gwen if she doesn't bring the stone to him in two days.

Gwen also seeks comfort from Y/n the whole time. Y/n even offers Gwen her bed since she doesn't want to go back home.

Uther also locks up Morgana in the dungeon and she is unbelievably angry with him. Arthur breaks her out the next day, warning her not to do it again.

Gwen tells her what Tauren did and Morgana, who has the stone, tells Gwen she'll send the knights to deal with Tauren. She lied and goes to the woods herself with the stone. Merlin senses the stone and follows the feeling. He follows Morgana to the meeting spot, listens to her making a deal with the sorcerers. She'll draw Uther away so they can kill him.

Merlin hears this and starts having a severe internal crisis since he doesn't know whether he should do something about it or let them kill the king.

He seeks advice from The Great Dragon, Kilgaarah, who tells him that Uther must die for magic to return to Camelot; he tells him to do nothing.

Obviously, this doesn't help Merlin at all.

Back in the castle, Morgana comes to apologize to Uther, saying that the murder of Tom reminds her of her own father's death. Reminds her of becoming an orphan herself. Uther understands her reasoning but is too prideful to say he was wrong yet. She says that he sent her father to his death, that he keeps sending innocent men to their deaths. Uther takes that to heart a bit and it makes him realize the other side of his actions. Morgana is happy since she knows her words have done such a thing. Her trap is being set up perfectly.

Meanwhile, Merlin seeks advice from Gaius about his dilemma. Gaius tells him that even though Uther has his failings, he has brought peace and prosperity to the kingdom, that he is a good king but he has clouded judgement at times. Merlin asks the same of Y/n and she agrees with Gaius. That Uther is a fool and has poor judgement when it comes to magic, but he still does what he thinks is best for the kingdom. He is a wise king, despite his faults.

Merlin asks why not let Arthur be king now? Why not let the pain and suffering that Uther causes end? Gaius explains that even though Arthur is a great and a good man, he lacks experience, he lacks judgement. He doesn't understand politics like his father does. Arthur has much to learn. Even Y/n agrees that she understands more about politics than Arthur and that's why she understands Uther's actions more than others, like Merlin or Morgana.
