(The kids are currently five)
(Katsuki's POV)
It was raining. I had chased that stupid Deku a little too far this time. He had found his way back and now I was- well, not lost, or anything. I was exploring. Alone. In the dark. While it's raining. And I wasn't entirely sure where I was.
I heard some kid crying, and thinking it was Deku, I ran over. He could tell me where we were! But when I ran over, it wasn't Deku.
It was a girl, dripping wet and carefully guarding a candle. She was crying, watching the candle flicker in the wind.
"Hah? Who are you? Why are you protecting some dumb candle?" I asked, sitting next to her.
"I can't l-let it go out. Or else I'll go out!" She cried sadly. She curled closer to the candle, keeping her dripping hair away from it.
"KATSUKI!" I heard my mom call. I grabbed the girl's hand.
"I know somewhere the candle will stay lit. Come on. I'M OVER HERE, MOM!"
My mom ran over and gasped when she saw the girl. "You're that missing girl! They've been looking all over for you! Oh, Katsuki, where did you find her?"
"Um, right here?"
"Come on you two." My mom covered us with a jacket and pulled us back to my house, which was closer than I'd expected. The girl stood under the room, staring up at the house.
"Whoa," she said. "You guys are rich people."
I laughed, pulling her inside. "Come on! We can put your candle in the guest room. Then I can show you my room! My room is the coolest!"
"You two need a bath first, Katsuki. Then we need to call the police-"
"No!" Candle Girl cried. My mom looked at her, confused. "The police will bring me back to that... place- and then Miss will yell at me... And then I'll get in trouble, and she'll take away my candles again!" Candle Girl grabbed my mom's arm, trembling. "I don't wanna..."
My mom stared at the girl. "Then... How do you feel about staying here with us?"
Candle Girl stared at my mom, then at me. She held her candle, frowning. "O... Okay!" She smiled. "You're nice, and you saved me..."
"Why don't we get that candle somewhere safe, and get you in the bath. Yeah? What is that candle, anyways?"
"It's my quirk- Candlelight. I can control candle flames, because my life is connected to this candle. As long as this candle is burning, I'll live. Or at least, that's what Momma told me. She lit this candle when I was born. So if you guys hadn't saved me, the rain would have killed me!"
We stared at her, surprised by how morbid that was.
"What?" She looked confused.
"Let's just- get you in the bath." My mom brought us into the bathroom and put us in the bath (remember they are five) and began to scrub at dirt.
With the bubbles surrounding us, I shoved some at Candle Girl, making her laugh. She then pushed some bubbles at me, laughing more. By the end of our bath, we were covered in bubbles, along with my soaked mother, who looked pissed.
"Well, you're name is... Y/n, right? Let's wash you off, and then get you in some warm clothes." Candle Girl nodded, grabbing my hand.
"It's fun here!"
~Two Weeks Later~
"This is Y/n, aka Candles. I saved her." I puffed out my chest, holding Candles' hand. She played with my fingers and stared at my followers. "Anyways, this is-" I listed off their names and nicknames, and then I got to Deku. "Deku..." I growled.
"Hey, Y/n-Chan!" He smiled. I wanted to hit him even more than usual. She just gave him a small wave and went back to playing with my fingers. I smirked at Deku, proud she didn't pay attention to him.
"The teacher's good enough. I bet you're super smart, Candles." I said. She hummed, not giving me answer.
"My old teacher said she didn't expect that I could read. Then she made me take a bunch of tests and then I didn't have to read with the other kids anymore." Some of my followers stared at her, wondering if she was an actual genius or an actual idiot. I kinda stared at her, not sure how to say anything after that.
"Um, okay..." I pulled my sweaty hand away from Candles, making her frown.
"Hey, I was using that."
"Well it's my hand, so... too bad."
She glanced around, finding a candle on a shelf, then walked over. Once she was within three meters of the candle, it flickered to life. She cupped her hands around the flame, and when she pulled away, a duplicate flame danced around her fingertips.
She smiled as she walked over to me, leaned closer, then blew out the flame in my face, leaving me with smoke tickling my cheek. I spluttered and shoved her away, and she giggled.
I glanced at her. "I didn't know you could do that."
"My quirk gives me control over candles, so..." She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. It flicked back to where it had hung in front of her face only seconds after.
"Maybe you're more useful that I thought." I glanced at her. I saw Deku in the corner of my eye, gaping at my Candles. I glared at him and grabbed her hand. She perked up, and returned to playing with my fingers.
Candles was my friend first. I saved her! That stupid Deku better keep his filthy hands off of her.
(Deku's POV)
Y/n-Chan was a strange girl, that was obvious. Though I don't think I'd ever seen Kacchan let someone touch him for that long, let alone hold hands. She must be really special to him.
Now that I thought about it, I don't think I'd ever seen him talk to a girl, other than because he had to.
Either way, she was really cool, with a really cool quirk!
End of Chapter.
