(Hello! Little note, it made the most sense to keep the class at twenty, so Ojiro will be the classmate missing. He doesn't seem to have as much of an effect on anything as Mineta does, so while I dislike Mineta quite a bit and don't feel any particular dislike for Ojiro, he was the simplest choice for me to remove. Enjoy the chapter!)
(Katsuki's POV)
Over the years, I'd grown used to the difference in my sleep schedule and Candles'. At the most basic explanation, I naturally fell asleep earlier and woke up just as early, and Candles was a night owl by nature, staying up to all hours of the night and wasting the days away.
She had once said it was even worse when she was a baby, that she would be up all night and sleep through the day, like her internal clock had been fucked up.
Through proper training, I had gotten her used to being asleep before ten and up before nine. Not nearly as early as I did, but good enough. She had already come programmed to wake up the moment someone opened her door.
So on our first day of highschool, you can imagine I was surprised when she was the one to wake me up.
"Katsuki!" She called, opening my door and jumping onto my bed. "Wake up, we're high schoolers!" I groaned and blinked awake, trying to process Candles being awake before me.
"Candles..?" I asked, rubbing my eyes. "Is that you?"
"Yeah, don't act all shocked, Katsuki." She stood up, showing off her new uniform to me. "Whaddya think?" She twirled around, smiling. "I think it's cute."
I stared at her, once again having a moment of realization that the person in front of me wasn't the five year old girl I'd saved ten years ago. She was... pretty. She was attractive. As angry as I got when people mentioned it, they weren't wrong. And she was right in front of me, constantly.
She was my best friend, but as a pretty girl, she was a huge distraction. On the other hand, she was powerful, and aided me well. I had been having this argument with myself for two years now, debating the pros and cons of keeping her around.
"Katsuki?" She asked, hunching over. I still hadn't answered, and her self confidence was dwindling by the second. "You feeling alright? You haven't called me ugly, or taunted me, or even gotten out of bed yet. Are you sick? You're never sick!"
She hurried over, pressing her soft fingers to my forehead. I pushed her away, frowning. "I'm fine, Candles. Get offa me before I blow you up."
She smiled instantaneously. "There he is. Now come on, we can't be late!" She ran out of my room, and I felt a little bad. I still had never answered her. Eh, whatever. She'd get plenty of compliments from that Pikachu later.
I got ready and found her drinking tea with the Old Hag, talking. The Old Hag nudged her, wishing her luck. "Still favoring the one you didn't even give birth to, eh?"
"Ah, shut it Katsuki. You and I both know she's a heck of a lot sweeter than you, as hard as you try to rub off on her. Can you blame me? And I still love your egoistic ass, as much as you deny it." She smirked at me, ruffling my hair. "Go show this school who's boss, kid."
"Bye, Mitsuki!" Candles waved, grabbing my hand and pulling me out the door.
We arrived at UA, and she paused. "Um, fuck. Katsuki, do you know how to-"
"Follow me. Guess I can't leave you alone for a few months, hm?" I teased. She punched my shoulder lightly, frowning. "Ah, shut it. You can't find your way around for your life, you're sense of direction is so shit."
"Even if you're right, you don't have to say it!" She tugged on the straps of her bag, pouting.
We arrived in the classroom, earlier than most. We sat down at our assigned seats, and she was placed right next to me. Soon enough, an extra with stupid looking glasses started yelling at me for the way I was sitting. She snorted, rolling her eyes.
And that was when Deku opened the door.
(Y/n's POV)
Katsuki glared at Deku, and I watched him curiously. When I had heard Deku made it into UA, I had been shocked. But not nearly as shocked as Katsuki had been.
When Denki arrived, I ran at him, tackling him with a hug. "PIKACHU!"
"N/n! Wh-when did you get here!" He blushed, not expecting such a friendly welcome. "Wow, that uniform looks great on you. Then again, you look great in everything, my love." He winked. I giggled, a small weight lifting from my chest that I hadn't known was there.
"Yeah. Hey, you sit right next to me! We should probably sit down." I smiled, pulling him to his seat.
Our teacher arrived, shocking my new classmates into silence. He took us outside for a quirk assessment, having us get into our gym uniforms.
We met outside, and Mr Aizawa explained the test, telling us we would now be able to use our quirks, unlike we used to back in elementary school and junior high.
He called Katsuki up to do the ball throw, but using his quirk. As expected, he launched the ball with a huge explosion, earning himself 705.2 meters. I observed quietly as Aizawa scolded my classmates for saying this looked 'fun'.
He really caught my attention when he said the last place student would be expelled. People gasped, and I couldn't help but look at Deku reflexively. Our class of twenty students prepared for the tests, and I thought over the different parts of my quirk and how it could be useful.
I had learned many of my techniques side-by-side with Katsuki, so understandably, our movements while using our quirks became almost mirrored, with a few differences where our quirks differed.
First test up was the 50 meter dash. My score ended up being 3.59 seconds, a bit faster than Katsuki, but definitely not the fastest.
Katsuki had trained me, in more ways than one, so I was bound to have limits at least similar to his, if you took my body into consideration. I wasn't as physically strong as he was, but I was a hell of a lot quicker and more agile than he was.
Which was saying a lot.
Next test was grip strength. Score, 53.7 kg.
Through the rest of the tests, a consistent pattern showed of Katsuki beating me in anything pure strength related, while I beat him in anything speed or agility.
And on the final test, the one Katsuki had already taken, I used the same technique as Katsuki, reviewing 668.7 meters. Katsuki began to gloat, but was distracted by Deku. Iida commented on how Deku would probably be heading home, and Katsuki scoffed, saying "Of course he is, he's a quirkless loser."
Iida then said he had a quirk, confounding us both. "What? But..." Katsuki and I looked to Deku, who then got an even worse throw score than I did back in elementary.
Aizawa talked with Deku, revealing himself as Eraser Head, then had Deku take the test again.
And he beat Katsuki.
End of Chapter.
