Embarrassed I quickly hid behind some chips as he made his way to the counter.
"Pack of marleys and some grabba." Nino said handing the store clerk a $20.
Continuing to get out of eyes view I backed up into a stand filled with magazines. The store clerk and Nino both looked over in my direction. I looked down at the floor imagining I turned invisible.
"Ry ? wassup what you doing all the way out here?" Nino said walking towards me.
I smiled faintly and looked at Nino. "I was grabbing something to eat" I said lying.
Just before Nino could say anything else Mani Sanchez walked through the door. "Nino I'm thirsty" She whined.
"For sure I gotchu" Nino said, still turned towards me. Nino questioned me with his eyes. And with my eyes I made a "everything's fine" face. Nino wasn't buying it and surely enough asked me was I okay.
"I'm fine don't worry about it" I laughed nervously. Internally I was furious at Nino and I couldn't understand why.
"Ryan forreal what's good with you right now?"
"Fine since you insist my phone is dead can I use yours to text Nia to come get me?"
"I'm taking you home" Nino said sternly.
I didn't even try to argue, the tone of Ninos voice is telling me that he's serious.
I followed Nino back to the car where I remembered that Mani would be sitting in MY seat. I rolled my eyes as I climbed in the back seat.
"Um Nino" Mani said confused looking at the both of us get in the car.
"Mani don't start this my son Ryan her phone dead i'm giving her a ride." Nino said annoyed.
"I never heard of you having a friend named Ryan." Mani said obviously trying to start an argument.
I uncomfortably sighed at the fact that I'm going to be in the back seat to witness the so-called argument go down.
"Well now you have, she been my mans since we was jitts anything else?" Nino snapped.
Mani sucked her teeth and reached for the bag that had her water in it. "Nino I can't believe you, I shoulda known you wasn't going to change" She laughed.
"Fuck is you talking bout Mani you wanted to link me." Nino said with a lot of base in his voice.
"I thought I'd give it another shot maybe you grew up a little but you still the same clown ass niggas as before fucking around with these little bitches.
I couldn't help but laugh once I heard them words come out of her mouth. Nino and her both turned around to look at me.
"Something funny?" Mani asked rudely.
"Yeah this was a bad idea I'm dropping your weird ass home" Nino said looking at Mani.
"HOME?! ME?! your gonna bring me home and not her she the one minding our business laughing and shit"
"Mani shut the fuck and watch how the fuck you talking to her!" Nino yelled.
"I have a boyfriend by the way." I decided to add.
Mani sat there quietly fingers moving rapidly amongst her phone. I just knew my name would be in her group chat by the time she got out of this car.
Nino pulled up in front of a brown apartment complex and Mani furiously got out the car. Nino followed behind her. I climbed up to the front seat where I belong and got cozy. I was unable to see Nino and Mani but I could hear bits and pieces of the conversation. Mani had begun crying and she slammed her door. Nino walked back to the car like he was stressed out and needed a clip. I reached for the weed stuff so I can start rolling.
