The blinding light of the tapestry curtains being drawn woke Clara. The maids were opening the curtains and fixing the room up. Abigail Clara's hand maid walked in the bedroom with a tray of breakfast.
Clara had beautiful light brown hair that fell in waves around her face. She hated her hair as she believed it looked like a mane. Her blue eyes were an elegant contrast to her pale skin. Her skin was a telltale sign that she was apart of upper class society. Clara hated being upper class, she loathed how they were all so selfish and stuck up. But most of all she hated how you had to follow strict rules. She longed to tear her hair out of its pins and run down the street without a care, but that would be scandalous and destroy her reputation.
Abigail placed the tray of steaming oatmeal and strawberries on Clara's lap. The smell and warmth of the meal consumed her senses. Abigail curtsying before she spoke out of respect as Clara was of higher rank.
"Today is the garden party ma'am. There will be many suitors present and your mother asked that you be on your best behaviour and look your best" Abigail informed Clara.
Clara inwardly groaned. She really didn't want to attend the garden party. If she went she would have to pretend she wanted to be there and socialise with stuck up people. Also the fact that there would be suitors present made it even worse, for she would definitely have to be lady like.
"Thank you Abigail, but I think I'm coming down with a cold so I guess I can't go." Clara replied to Abigail, trying to get out of the garden party.
"Nice try Clara, you are going" Clara's mother, Helen, scolded her teasingly while walking into her room.
"But mother must I go, I really don't want to." Clara tested.
"Yes, now enough of the matter, Abigail would you please get out some of Clara's best garden dresses" Helen said.
After some time they found the perfect dress. Clara didn't help choose the dress she wanted nothing to do with the torturous day. Every now and again she would say something about not going today but her mother dismissed it. They choose a cream dress with turquoise floral detailing for her to wear. It was a poofy dress and Clara hated them. They constricted and confined her and not to mention the corset she had to wear with it.
After Abigail had got the dress on Clara she started doing her hair. She fastened it back and let ringlets fall around her face. After she had finished she looked at the hair and decided that something was missing. Abigail looked around until she spotted a vase of white carnations. She went over and picked a few out and fastened them in Clara's hair.
"All done ma'am, you ready to leave" Abigail informed Clara.
