The Singing Extravaganza

Chapter 6

"Well! The power is back on. And I'm back to work. Nice seeing you guys again" said Sam.

"Oh, Sam, couldn't I just have a minute with you?" said Dudley.

"Absolutely you can. Come on in" said Sam.

Dudley looked at Newton with a scared expression.

"Go with the flow" Newton advised.

Dudley followed Sam into the theater.

"Now, just lower that sandbag, would you please?" said Sam.

"You mean this?" said Dudley.

"Mm-hmm" said Sam.

"How?" said Dudley.

"Oh, it's easy. You just... crank back this lever and the sandbag lowers so the curtain opens" said Sam.

"I see" said Dudley.

He lowered the sandbag and the curtain rose.

"Good. And the house lights if you please" said Sam.

Dudley flipped another switch and the whole theater lit up.

"Oh my..." he whispered in awe.

"Yeah. Beautiful, isn't she? The Wiggles perform here a lot" said Sam.

"How jolly" said Dudley.

"Real jolly. You know, Dudley, how'd you like to be a part of this show?" said Sam.

"Really? Oh dear me, I was just going to ask about that" said Dudley.

"Were you? Because... well... I haven't hired any stage hands yet and you're pretty good with the levers" said Sam.

Dudley's heart sank. He didn't get to tell Sam what he meant.

"You want to hire me as a stage hand?" he said sadly.

"Don't you worry about it. I'll teach you everything I know" said Sam.

"But, Sam..." Dudley began.

"We'll build those muscles in no time. It'll be awesome" said Sam.

"Well... alright" said Dudley.

"Cool. Come on. I'll show you backstage" said Sam.

Dudley followed her backstage.

The rehearsal spaces had windows so he could see Jill and Eliza dancing and Angie rocking out on her guitar.

"How wonderful" Dudley said to himself.

"Wonderful? I think the word you're after is awful! That's me restraining myself" said Clayton.

"Oh, but..." Dudley began.

Clayton cut him off saying "There's not an ounce of talent in them. That prize is as good as mine already".
