Chapter Six
Libero

"I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY FINALLY let you back on the team, I'm just so excited!" Akino gushed, sipping her iced coffee that the boy beside her had kindly offered to buy. They were walking down the empty hallways of the school headed to the gym building to see the team. Nishinoya simply grinned, pointing a hand at himself all high and mighty, just like she would expect after her comment. After a long and torturous few weeks and a 'stupid' apology letter, he was finally allowed back on the team. Akino felt as though they needed it, considering their first game hadn't gone too well.
"Well, no, duh! They can't play without me, I'm the libero. The team would fall apart without me," he exclaimed, eyeing her out of the corner of his vision, smiling slightly at the fact that she was enjoying her drink. He found it adorable that the small things made her so happy, like a coffee. Akino just rolled her eyes even though she hated to admit he was right. The team definitely were lacking in their defensive skills.
"Oi, don't start getting all confident on me. I don't need it, but I'm sure the team missed it." She skipped forward slightly, clean gym shoes sliding against the cool hardwood floor. They had just gone to get drinks while the rest of the team showed up, ready to surprise them. Noya offered to get her coffee, and she was sold, following him like a lost puppy. Lost, but motivated, she had defended.
As they arrived at the gym, immediately the libero took off towards the court. Akino barely had time to see where he was going before he was receiving a serve from the newbie, Kageyama. She sighed, grumbling at herself for finding him super attractive when he was playing volleyball, then turned to dump her stuff off by the stands. Of course, Noya would take the first opportunity he could find to show off. That didn't surprise Akino at all.
Walking over to join the conversation, Akino stretched her arms.
"Uh- are you shorter than me?" Of course, the first thing Akino's brother had to comment on was the libero's height. She face palmed as Nishinoya immediately turned to face the innocent redhead with a scrunched up face.
"Hey! You had better watch what you say to me!" He exploded, reminding the redheaded girl of a small dog yanking at the end of a leash. She giggled at the thought, and Hinata immediately continued grilling him.
"I'm so sorry! Anyway, I just wanted to know how tall you are?" Hinata muttered, glancing at his sister who looked at him quizzically.
"I'm 5'2 that good enough for 'ya?" Akino smiled at the libero, reaching to ruffle his hair, "make sure you flatten the hair first."
"Someone to look down at! I haven't had that since middle school!" He started to fake cry while Noya and her exchanged looks. She let her arm rest on his, holding onto the elbow of his uniform jacket. He only gave her a small smile, not trying to weird her brother out by being too affectionate back, "You freaking kidding me? You're not looking that far down!"
