━─━────༺༻────━─━

these were the moments you cherished. it's not like you weren't aware of how matt couldn't see you so frequently - you were plenty aware of that - but it didn't stop that part of you that yearned to be with him again. like right now.

your apartment definitely didn't pass as the luxury in hell's kitchen but it was enough. it was a small studio in the upper east side, not too far from matt and foggy's office. the floor in which you were situated wasn't too far up from the front desk, which no one ever worked at considering the only staff was a newly high school graduate who had no work ethic whatsoever, but it was high enough to observe the streets below from a suitable distance over the balcony attached to your room.

in fact, you were holding on to the slightly rusted metal of the steel railings a couple hours ago when you saw him. why you were out there in the first place, you had no idea - sometimes it just felt right to stand somewhere all you could hear were the congested roads of new york and sometimes the distant drunken chants from the bar a few blocks away and breathe in the (polluted) air.

none other than matt murdock was strolling along the road leading to where you were domiciled - his hand grazing the familiar brick walls to find his way, though by now he was sure he had no need for any form of guidance. the thick, jet black clothing covering his skin told enough what had happened.

you immediately turned around and climbed back through the window which opened out onto the elevated porch, making sure to lock it after to prevent yet another lecture from your boyfriend about how 'dangerous the neighbourhood is'.

in the wake of grabbing hold of your jacket (which was definitely not matt's) and shrugging it on, you all but hurled down the staircase, ignoring both the smell of cigarettes and lemon which practically radiated from the building at this point.

seeing him on ground level was even more stimulating than from above. the exhilaration upon seeing him died down a degree once you saw the (unsurprising) seemingly bruising area on his jaw.

your footsteps stilled once you reached the last step leading from the door, watching as matt's head fell to his feet. the lawyer sighed and reached behind his head to peel off the pitch-dark material surrounding his eyes, hands clenching around his signature crimson glasses.

he kept his eyes on the floor.

"i've missed you." the crack in his voice was enough for the tears you were trying to hold back to form, and you ran towards him, him wrapping his arms around you and pulling you flush to his chest.

whenever matt held you in his embrace you'd wish you could stay there for all eternity. unfortunately, no matter how long you were there, it never seemed long enough.

that was when he kissed the side of your held and loosened his grasp on you as much as he would let himself do - which wasn't too much

"let's go inside."

and that's what led you to right now, head pressed up against his chest on the comforter cramped against the wall of your apartment, listening to the calming thumping of his heart.

matt was home. with you.

it must've been some stupid hour in the morning by now. you didn't dare close your eyes long enough to drift off, in fears he would disappear as you were sleeping. every moment you got with matt was one you wanted to keep going on forever.

but the soft actions of him stroking your hair was battling you. everything about him was so comforting, it was difficult to stay awake at this point.

meaning, you had no idea there were even words coming out of your mouth when you said it.

"can you dream?"

his raspy laugh vibrated through your body, sending a slight shiver down you,

"what?" how his voice could be so hoarse yet so soft at the same time would always be a mystery to you. everything about matthew was a mystery - it was one of the things you loved most about him.

"can you dream?" you spoke again, with a tired chuckle at his clueless reply.

he pulled your closer to him, "yeah... i can..." his voice was a bare whisper, lips grazing your forehead before pressing them lightly against your skin.

"what do you dream about?" you matched his hushed tone and turned to look him in the eyes.

matt had beautiful eyes, whether he could see out of them or not.

you couldn't care less about his impairment - it just made him even more perfect to you. knowing all his flaws and how open he was with you was the most reassuring feeling, given how closed off matt usually was.

"well," he reached out to cup your face, brushing a stray hair he could feel behind your ear, "i dream about the accident a lot..."

you should've known he would say that; guilt rushed through you.

matt seemed to realise this and stilled his hand, making you look at him, "and i dream about our future."

"yeah?"

"yeah."

"but you don't even technically know what i look like apart from feeling my face." maybe that came out wrong. what could you say? you were tired.

he shrugged, "i've got a rough idea. well, accurate, id say."

"what's our future like, then?"

"we have a house."

"oh yeah?"

"and a dog."

"sounds perfect."

his grin faded to a more sincere one, but not in a bad way. in a way that let you know he was completely genuine, "you're perfect."

"stop being cute, matthew."

"never."

a small, comfortable silence rolled over you both as you settled back down into matt's warmth, the adrenaline of him coming home all building up into this one moment.

that's when matt heard a change in your breathing and glanced down to see your sleeping figure on top of him.

he smiled at the sight.

and that's when he knew.

he never wanted to leave again.
