A couple of months has already gone by. Evan was 2 months old by now, and the sparks incident that had trouble Timothy for so many nights that cold January were all but forgotten. Miranda and Timothy had just written it off as some strange occurrence. There was no point in being worried about it, Evan was fine and developing normally. They simply bought a new carrier and went on with their lives. The colicky nights of intense crying from Evan had passed, and their home returned to its former state of serenity.

That was until Timothy came home from work to see a distressed Miranda staring intently at the TV, that was broadcasting some news report.

"Everything alright?" He asked, his voice trailing off with concern. "Just sit down and watch." She directed, not taking her eyes of the TV. She grabbed the remote and raised the volume. "The Senate has issued a statement on the new law being signed into place today." The newscaster explained. Timothy rolled his eyes. "You're really invested in trivial politics? I didn't see you as that type of person." He stated, uninterested. "Of course I'm not! But this isn't just any law. For once, it actually affects us. It always has to be the worst laws that actually impact the little guys." She ranted. "What? What is this law even abou-" Timothy questioned. Miranda put her finger against her lips, still not looking away from the TV. "Shh, just listen." They both fell silent as they listened to the newscaster anxiously. "The Senate has released formerly classified information on the existence of supernatural humans in this nation. They say that there has been reports of children being born with the ability to possess magic. They have not found any adults with these powers, which bring them to believe these power-holders are fairly recent developments. They've released this information along with a statement going into detail about the law they have passed;" The newscaster stopped speaking as the screen cut to a written quote from a Senator, Vivian DeMontrez. The newscaster began to speak again, narrating the quote: "Little information is known about these anomalies. That is why the Senate has unanimously agreed that all children found to have these abilities will be taken to a government-run facility where we will study them. Rest assured, we will not harm said children or run any tests on them; it is only to observe them. They will be returned to your homes when we feel we've gathered enough information. We do this for national safety, as the true extent and danger of their powers is unknown." The quote disappeared and cut back to the newscaster. "The Senate has refused to comment any further. Conner, back to you." Miranda shut off the TV, turning to Timothy. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" She asked sternly. "I don't think so..." Timothy answered hesitantly, still drawing a blank. "That statement literally confirmed that magic exists!" Timothy stared at her, confused. "So?" "'So?!' Do you not remember what happened when we first brought Evan home?! He literally summoned electricity to burst from within him!" "I thought we agreed to write that off and forget it! It was probably faulty electrical wiring and Evan was just luckily unharmed! You know how old this place is!" "How would he be in his carrier, that was scorched to high hell, and not be injured if it was just 'faulty electrical wiring'?!" "Are you saying that you think Evan is one of those magic kids?!" "No, but yes! It's just too much of a coincidence!" "Miranda, why do you think little ol' us out everyone in this country would be the ones to have a magic baby?" Timothy asked skeptically. "I don't know, but I'm saying we shouldn't just write it off! Especially when us being able to keep our baby hangs in the balance!" "Even if they do take Evan, they said they would return all of the kids they took to study. You're worried about whether they'll take Evan from us, I understand that. But you're worrying a bit too much, don't you think?" Timothy tried to reason. "I think you're worrying a bit too little!" Miranda exclaimed. She stood up aggressively, but took a deep breath. "It's obvious you're not as worried for Evan as you should be. We can speak about this again when you're ready to realize how suspicious and disturbing this all really is." She stated before storming off to their room. Timothy sat on the couch, crouching over with his hands folded, left alone to ponder and come to the realization about the supernatural undertones Evan displayed, just like the uneasy feeling he tried to constrain that first night.
