Alfie POV

I hear Zoe's gasp over the noise of the party and whirl around. Her and Louise are on either side of the deck railing, chatting worriedly. I can see tears in Louise's eyes and I jump out the pool and rush over.
"Alfie" shrieks Zoe when she sees me. "We can't find Darcy!"
My heart seems to stop for a second. My heads a little blurry from the alcohol.
"What do you mean?"
"I was sitting with on the deck here and I just left her for a second to get drinks but I got distracted and chatted for a while and when I got back her toys were still here but she's gone. I've looked everywhere and she's gone" Louise explains in a single breath, probably because she's inches from crying.
"Okay, alright. The door's been mainly shut but you two check in the house anyway. I'll check the games room. I know people have been in there. Meet back here after."
I dash off toward the games room. I'm panicking a little, Darcy's an outgoing kid, I wouldn't put it past her to run off. And with the party all the gates and doors have been opened and closed constantly. But I have to keep calm. I don't want Louise or Zoe to panic.

The games room is empty except for Dan and Phil playing pool. I've only ever met them before in passing, but I know Louise is close with both of them. Darcy clearly isn't here, but do I tell them?
I decide to risk it.
"Have you seen Darcy anywhere? She's missing" I tell them. Phil gasps but Dan just stares.
"I haven't seen her, we've been in here for ages. Do you need some help looking?" Phil offers.
"Emm..You can just keep an eye out around the garden and pool if that's okay. Oh! But don't tell anyone. I don't know if Louise wants people to know" I add as an afterthought.
I check the other outbuildings quickly before I regroup with Zoe and Louise. Their eyes are red and I know they've been unsuccessful before they speak. Darcy is not in the garden, not in the outbuildings, not in the house.
The side gate is unlocked.
The three of us run through onto the long front driveway. There's a grassy area on each side but Darcy isn't there and she isn't hidden between the row of parked cars either. At the far end of the driveway is a big grey gate with an intercom to open them.
We left the gates open while everyone was arriving and I guess we forgot to close them. How could we be so stupid?
Wordlessly, we walk out onto the road. It only lead to the other houses around here so it's not busy, but there's still a few cars around.
"Darcy! DARCY!" Calls out Zoe, a tone of desperation in her voice. We should probably spilt again and check either way up the street but I can tell none of us want to leave eachother.
I start to walk left and Zoe follows, but Louise just stands, frozen, staring at a point on the road.
