"do you trust me?" the tall boy leaned against the locker next to her own, a smirk playing across his lips. "i don't know if i should, why?" she chuckled, shutting her locker slowly so it wouldnt make a loud clang noise.

their friendship kindled since he had approached her at the mailbox, he'd texted her, made her laugh, talked to her in and out of the last two days school. she thought it as odd, she didn't enjoy talking to many people.

"skip next period with me. right now." he ducked down to her height to look her straight in her eyes without her having to look upwards. she scoffed "what's this plan of yours mr jacobs? i don't do that stuff" she was telling the truth, she'd never been in trouble at school ever. he grinned even wider, even more mischievous. "i don't need a plan. and i don't care."

"don't you have practice later?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow. "and don't you have maddy to take care of?"

"fuck maddy." even the name made him seethe with anger, she ruined everything for him. "you and me right now." he was stern, it scared her a little. he scared her. evangeline knew he always got what he wanted. she looked down to play with the hem of her shirt sleeve, eventually looking back up to meet his eyes once more.

"i don't know nate, its only the third day-"

he grabbed her arm and pulled her into the parking lot, making her wince in pain from his harshness. he wasnt aware of how strong he actually was. he looked down to see her squeezing her eyes shut, he let go of her arm. he didnt want to hurt her, but she wouldnt leave willingly, it was the only option. "sorry" he mumbled, fumbling for his keys in his pocket.

"it's okay." she whispered, sliding into the passengers seat of his truck with her head hanging low.

the drive was silent. his rough demeanor made things feel eerie, it put her off. perhaps that's just how he was with everyone though.

nate wanted to protect her, never damage her perfect demeanor. his rage towards himself made him want to crash that car. he was so angry with himself it made his head pound, he couldn't think of anything else but his own stupid actions.

"ellie i swear im sorry, can you stop being so fucking silent?" she craned her neck towards him "where are we going?" she smiled, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, a cherry earring dangling. not too big, not too small, it was perfect, and it drove nate crazy. how could someone be the definition of pure magnificence?

"my house" his eyes had lingered on her for a few seconds, from her dumb cherry earring, to her silver heart locket that laid against her collarbone, her white lace bell sleeved top, her skirt with little cherries just to compliment said pair of earrings, her long white socks that reached the middle of her thigh, her shiny black mary janes. he analyzed every part of her within seconds.

the way he looked at her made her nervous. she wanted to know everything he thought at that moment, not knowing ate at her heart, which had been pounding since she got into the car. what was it about nate jacobs that made her so afraid yet, made her feel safe? she played with the thought of it.

but even then she knew nothing came between him and maddy. evangeline and nate were just friends, nothing more than that. he was just taking her to his house to do homework probably. she wondered if it'd always be like this, him and maddy together, ellie in the middle to be there when he hated maddy in the moment. she hated that thought, it made a giant painful lump in her throat form.

"your parents aren't gonna be home?" she replied realizing she hadn't responded in a minute, her thoughts raced at every move he made and she couldnt even help herself.

"nah, working." he kissed his teeth as he pulled into the driveway. she smiled "oh okay," she turned to let herself out, brushing down her skirt as she hopped from the elevated truck.

and for hours she laid on his bed, talking about anything that came to both their minds. this is where she always wanted to be, she thought, in that moment nothing mattered at all. there wasnt darkness in him, he was sweet, he made her smile, he made her laugh. all of his violence was worth it.
