in the two days following,
evangeline realized two things.

nate was distant, and he was always with maddy again.

it wasn't like ellie and nate were ever actually together, she couldn't be broken-hearted over something that never happened. she just had probably overthought him, he probably just had friendly intentions, but why did she feel such a way over something that shouldn't have mattered anyway? they barely knew each other.

evangeline thought of the attention boys gave her, it was all sexual, with nate she'd felt like he wanted to listen to every word she said, like he'd cherished their time.

every time nate thought he didn't need maddy, she'd do something to challenge him, then he was addicted once more. she raced through his mind, he needed her, he craved her. he wanted to break her down. she brought out the darkest side of him.

but evangeline brought the light, it was complicated. he didn't understand it, but he didn't try to.

'ur with maddy again?' his phone buzzed to the notification, he sighed reading it, he knew there was a decision to make, but he couldn't bring himself to choose.

"hey ellie, what's up? you look like, really sad." evangeline turned towards the blonde girl, "i'm fine cass," her lips upturned into a smile "i'm just thinking." cassie shook her head, unsatisfied with the answer. "nuh uh, tell me now" she dragged out the last word for what felt like forever.

cassie howard was pure saccharine, someone you could trust with your life. yet somehow, evangeline couldn't bring herself to tell her anything. maddy was her best friend, and she knew that if she had told cassie a word it would get straight to maddy.

ellie didn't even want to think of what maddy would do.

"i love you cass but i swear im literally perfectly fine." she sounded snappier than she intended, it made her stomach turn, she watched as the blonde girl's bright smile dropped.

"fuck, cass im so sorry i didn't mean it like that it's just... like, i don't even know." her voice trailed. she looked down at her phone once more to reassure her negative thoughts.

"i get that, it's okay el." the blonde beamed "i've gotta get to english, text me later?" evangeline nodded, a small and fake grin plastered on her face. she wanted to tell someone desperately, share this anxious feeling, but cassie was one of her only friends.

as she walked to her math class, a tall figure obstructed her view. "can we talk?" his voice pierced through her ears. she looked up to see his face, his jaw was clenched, he was angry, she couldn't deny him now, he'd force her anyway.

"uhm, yeah what's up?" he nodded towards the gender neutral bathroom. her eyes panned towards the sign, she slowly started to shake her head "nate i've got to get to class, i'm already late." she flicked her eyes back to his.

"i would really appreciate it if you talked with me, in the bathroom." his voice was stern, as if he was giving orders rather than asking. she swallowed the lump that formed in her throat mere seconds ago, then nodded against her own wishes.

as the lock of the single bathroom door clicked, nate dropped his bag to the floor. "you're a good girl, ellie. you're too good for this world." he sighed. the look in his eyes, sinister, something diabolically plotting in the back of his head.

her heart pounded continuously, she couldn't tell the emotions running through her own body. as he stepped towards her she stepped back, like if he got too close he'd hurt her, yet something was so erotic about it all.

"what's going on?" she muttered in an almost whimper. he acted as if a hunter to his prey, unnatural, she'd seen glimpses of this part of him, but never this rotten, this diabolical.

"are you scared? don't be scared, i'll never hurt you." he smiled, but not in the ways he'd smiled at her before. she let out a breath "no," she backed into the wall.

he got closer and closer until she had been practically pinned up against the wall by him. he was so much more powerful than she was, she couldn't get away if she wanted, but that was the issue, she didn't want to. she had been so good her whole life, she was so attracted to evil, but she didn't think of nate as evil.

"you're such a bad idea evangeline. we can't keep seeing each other." she felt her lip quiver, yet not a single tear formed. she wouldn't allow herself to let him see her cry. she stared into his eyes for a moment, before nodding her head in acknowledgement. "okay."

"you got that? you understand?" his anger festered on every word, as if he didn't want to do this, truth be told he didn't. he had to. but he couldn't help himself placing his lips onto her own.

she pulled away immediately, but before she could get in a single 'what the fuck nate?' he pulled her back in, she couldn't resist this time though. he held her wrists down to her sides before letting them roam back up to her neck.
