Wandering the empty corridors, mulling over all the events from the last few days, Harry found himself in a hallway he had never seen before. The corridor was fairly bare besides a few specs of dirt littering the floor. He had reached about halfway along before the light slowly reached its end. Instinctively, he grabbed his wand and whispered,
"Lumos."
Light surrounded the few feet nearest him, yet mentally he still remained dark. In his mind he knew he had just passed the prefects bathroom on the fifth floor.
That's strange, he thought. Surely the hospital tower doesn't go on this far, and with no windows nonetheless.
Fearing what might be hidden away up here, he slowly marched forward, running his hand along the wall to his side in case he came along some hidden door (which just so happened to be unlocked and not password protected). Unsuccessful in his attempts, he hadn't noticed it until he began to turn and trace the other wall on his way back.
A rather large and obtuse frame perfectly centered at the end wall. A painting. An ordinary bedroom with various items decorated the background, yet held no sight of the person occupying it.
Maybe they're out visiting some of the other paintings, he tried to justify. Yeah, most of them travel around except the ones guarding something, which was true. The only time he had seen The Fat Lady leave her post was when she had been attacked. Otherwise, they'd need to stay to accept the password and open whatever it was that laid behind.
Or what if, his mind began to race, they had seen me coming and had gone to alert someone; tell on a student out of bed past curfew. Harry mentally groaned at the thought of another Peeves, but at least this one was confined behind canvas.
The thought of Filch having the satisfaction of catching him doing something out of line rapidly begun to replace any thought of a hidden room.
"Nox," he whispered, trying to maintain the silence of the hallways.
This effort was quickly made pointless as he turned to take one last look down the hallway, his foot had gotten stuck. Harry's mind couldn't focus between the pain of his head hitting the floor, or the extremely loud ca-thunk as the metal statue of Boris the Bewildered fell with him.
Great. If Filch wasn't on the search before, he sure would be now. Way to wake up the entire hospital wing, he internally facepalmed.
