It's been a week since we went to Clark & Co and since I ran into Barry. Ever since Nayel has gotten back to his usual grumpy asshole self. I don't know what happened but the nice, friendly, patient at times somewhat flirty guy is gone and I just miss him. It just sucks because I had gotten used to the liking of coming to work and having cordial conversations with the person I see the most at work. He is my boss who's done a full 180 again and is back to his usual shitty self. I just wonder if it was something I did that made him change like this, I can't help thinking I'm always in the wrong. He probably got sick and tired of being nice for a couple of weeks so he had to reboot to his same ass wipe of a person.
I'm so glad today is Friday, I can't wait to not have to deal with his tantrums for 2 days. We had a meeting with some clients today to discuss a case that will start next week so I had offered to do a coffee run for the clients as well as for our staff. Dunkin was only 5 minutes away so It really wasn't a bother.
"Where have you been?" Nayel snaps at me as I step out of the elevator.
I furrow my eyes in confusion, my hands clearly carrying coffee, "I was getting coffee for the clients as you asked me to?" I say rather annoyed, scowling at him. I hate that he brings out the worse in me, turning me into a bitter person just like him.
"And it took you" He looks at his watch, "30 minutes to get coffee from a place that is 5 minutes away?"
"Are you blind? Do you not see how many cups I'm holding? It takes time not to make such a massive order not to mention I walked to and from Dunkin" I roll my eyes and walk past him to give everyone their coffee in the conference room.
After handing everyone their coffee, I decided to take a seat next to Winston who smiles as he sees me, "Hi" he says softly.
"Hey" I smile.
"You look really nice today, green really suits you," Winston says sheepishly.
I look down at my emerald green turtle neck top, "Thank you" I smile.
"Did you get a haircut recently?" I ask observing his hair from the edges.
"Yeah, they were growing a bit too long for my liking so got them trimmed from the edges" Winston shrugs.
"It looks nice" I pause, "Have you ever thought of getting a buzz cut? I think you would look really badass with it" I grin tilting my head.
Winston chuckles, "Yeah I'd look like a serial killer."
I giggle, "No, I think you'd look edgy and hot"
Winston raises an eyebrow, "hot aye?"
"Yeah like a bad boy from high school type of vibes" I smirk.
Winston laughs rather loudly, "Yes that is exactly the type I want to go for as a lawyer" That's kind of the vibe Nayel executes with his features but mostly his personality however, he's probably the high school asshole.
I shrug, "We will never know unless you try it out"
"Maybe I will one day" Winston stares at me in amusement.
From the corner of my eye I could see Nayel throwing daggers with his eyes our way but I did not care, I know he does not like Winston and I together for whatever reason but I don't fucking care.
....
"I need you to fill in this paperwork and fax it over to Clark & Co before you head out," Nayel says casually dumping the documents on my desk.
My eyes widen, "It's 4:35, I can't complete this in time"
Nayel scoffs, "Not my problem, you can stay overtime if you need to"
"This is not fair, you can't give me a task over an hour-long 20 minutes before I need to leave" I snap.
Nayel narrows his eyes, "I am far too lenient with everyone here but especially you. I'm your boss Maria. You have to do as I say, that is your job description. I never make you work overtime or on weekends even though I can and probably should. Just look at the type of bosses people your age work for and here you are complaining about having to stay an hour longer, you are so ungrateful" He sneers at me.
"Maybe I would enjoy working more and staying later if this workplace environment wasn't so toxic and lowkey bordering on harassment" I blurt out before I could stop myself.
"Am I a little blunt and authoritative sometimes? Yes, absolutely because if I was a friendly happy boss-type I would not have this empire I have created, no one would get any work done because they would simply think I am too nice to ever snap at them and I hate to break it to you but it's not because I'm evil, it's just how I need to be to make sure my company, my bloodshed, and tears are not thrown down the drain because I'm nice" Nayel uses finger quotes to use the word nice, "Have you ever noticed the way you talk to me? How many people do you know who speak to their boss the same way you speak to me?"
I roll my eyes, "You don't have to be a dick for people to take you seriously Mr. Nayel and if you were slightly more polite with me personally I would talk to you in a manner of respect, but you have proven time after time you don't deserve that so what's the point?" I snap at him, "clearly I am a good employee which is why I have stuck around longer than any one of your previous assistants and if I was truly as bad as you are making me out be you would've fired me. So I think you should keep this "I am very lenient with you" speech to yourself because we both know I'm not the problem here" I say raising my voice, growing angrier by the minute, using finger quotes myself mimicking him.
Nayel lets out a heavy sigh, "You're wasting your own time arguing with me, just finish the paperwork before you leave" He groans and walks back into his office without saying another word.
Nayel has already managed to ruin my weekend and it hasn't even started yet. When will this man just let me be in peace for fucks sake?
