chapter three:
to kill a mocking girlHanna couldn't sleep, she stared at the ceiling listening to the sound of Charlie's breathing. She could tell the girl was asleep.
After the kiss had happened Charlie acted like nothing happened. Hanna couldn't help but think about it, the way it felt overall.
Charlie shifted slightly letting out soft breath as she pushed the blanket off her body. Hanna was afraid the girl had woken up, so she turned.
Hanna knew she would need to sleep soon, but she couldn't bring herself to sleep. She stood up slowly waking out of the room towards the restroom.
Charlie sat up when she heard the door shut she yawned lightly as she rubbed at her tired eyes. She knew Hanna felt like shit for what happened.
She made a promise to herself she wouldn't mention it again. It was just a distant memory she wouldn't acknowledge anymore.
If she was lucky maybe Hanna would forget about it as well. Charlie spent the entire night waiting for Hanna to return back into the room.
She didn't come back, and Charlie knew Hanna had fallen asleep in the guest bedroom.
—
Charlie hadn't seen Hanna since that night, part of her felt dumb for what she did. She walked along the school hallways hoping she'd see Hanna.
But she never did, she ached to apologize and tell Hanna the kiss meant nothing. She pushed her locker open hearing the loudness of high heels.
She turned hoping it was Hanna, but it was only Mona the girl not even acknowledging Charlie when she walked past her.
Charlie sighed deeply closing her locker and walking after the girl. "Mona" she paused looking at Charlie with distaste.
It hurt Charlie, they used to be friends at one point but after Alison. Mona changed into a completely different person, someone Charlie didn't like.
"What do you want Charlotte" she held onto her phone looking bored with the girl. "Sorry for bothering you, but I was wondering if you've seen Hanna, I mean you're her friend".
Mona looked sympathetic for a single second her eyes looking at Charlie's with pity. Of course it wasn't surprising Hanna told Mona about the kiss.
The girl practically cried for hours on the phone when she told Mona. And Mona promised to not tell Charlie where Hanna was at all costs.
"I'm not sure where she's at, she didn't come to school today because she had something to do".
Charlie sighed "okay thanks anyways" she went to leave but Mona smirked slightly. "She's gonna be at the party tonight if you wanna try finding her".
Charlie wasn't one who attend parties, they were often loud and full of drunk teenagers. She nodded walking away from the girl and entering her last class of the day.
—
Charlie sat on her bed holding onto a book after asking her mother if she could attend the party. She refused saying Charlie had to watch Jack.
