The Ghost Initiative (Avengers Next Gen)

The chase begins

~Alex P.O.V~

The game continued and i could hear the Avengers constantly mentioning that this seems an ineffective way of training. Specifically Captain Rodgers seemed to be against the idea.

" how is playing Children games, going to help us fight more effectively as a team?" I was starting to understand why he and dad never got along. Instead of giving the comment undeserved attention, i turned to James and spoke up.

" we're the last team to go, I'll place a bet. I'll spot my entire team before you even spot one person who isn't Steve, based purely on how well i know and trust my teammates." I held my hand out to seal the team James looked over at Steve and the rest of the Avengers and smirked slightly.

" doesn't it show this is ineffective if your teammates are that bad at hiding compared to us?... Doll " he had an arrogant look in his eye as if he was sure he had made a good point. I however was more focused on the fact that my stomach fluttered when he called me doll, with the old Brooklyn accent. I really hate that Bree paired me up with him, he was too hot and mysterious for me to focus properly. More so given the fact that i had the biggest crush of my life on him when we learnt about him in history.

I smugly shook his hand " i said I'd spot them first, i never said they were bad enough to get caught so easily, that's the Avengers job Sarg" he stiffened with what looked like annoyance and the teams ran in all directions as we began to count. We reached 50 and i turned to scan the area, James however ran off immediately. Like an overly excited 5 year old who got told he could grab a candy store.

I focused in on how each of my team members interacted with the Avenger counterpart and turned towards the east side, i took off running towards the first line of tree and immediately spotted Dr banner behind one of the trees. I also noticed that he stared right past me as i walked in front, Bree was using her power... my hand moved into a fist and i focused on building a fire within my palm, before extinguishing it with water, almost the only thing i could safely do. When i could feel the steam in my fist i focused my thoughts and threw my hand behind me, watching as the steam moved around her feet.

" Found you Banners!" i heard Bree's footsteps as she took off running and followed after them, stumbling slightly as i hit branches she knocked over, a particularly large one hit my stomach and a was knocked flat as the wind left me, i heard a faint sorry before her footsteps disappeared. I rolled onto my stomach coughing, before i heard the giggling of on Taylor Foster who never left her Girlfriends line of sight. I tried not to acknowledge it as I stood up moving in the opposite direction as the tree Taylor was perched in.

I completed a wide circle, surprising both Casey and her mom, who James had not found, and after i managed to tag Casey, Natasha was nice enough to tell me that James had only found Steve and tagged him. I knew it, all these big bad Avengers had forgot the basics of hide and seek... know your hiders, and use how they think against them. The same tactics as covert operations, never let your position be given away by going after the main players... until they're all that's left.

I swiftly found Nate, who left some bruises as i tried to tag him, i was starting to dislike how many bendy branches were in this forest. Next was Amelia, who didn't like to stray to far from the front of the tree line, she never saw me coming as i had climbed a tree a couple behind her, used the branches to switch trees and climbed down, as Dad watched. I turned on the branch and immediately caught site of Becky, who was perched in a tree looking confused. The moment i took a step in her direction she jumped from her branch, i followed suit as she ran past into the clearing, alerting the others to my location. Damn it, she stayed perched in the centre near where captured members were smirking at the irritation on my face. She was playing the long game , making sure she could see me coming. I turned swiftly to search for Mel when i hear a twig break directly next to me, my hand shot out and i could feel the gust of wind as Bree, ran to join Becky.

I sprinted after her tracking her footsteps with my ears, suddenly she let out a quiet swear word and i could see a peg move on a nearby tent. I jumped in her direction and grunted as i made contact with her, both of us falling to the ground. Her laughter filled my ears as i began to grumble.

" that was a nasty trick when we were kids Bree, i can't believe you let me lead you to a place surrounded by small things to trip on or make noise." Her laughter got louder as i finished my smug statement. I could also hear Becky arrogantly telling Steve that there was no way for me to tag her without her seeing, which gave me an idea.

" Hey Bree—" i whispered " could i ask a favour?" I explained my plan to her and once she agreed i walked straight up to where Becky stood, taking my time to step over every obstacle as silently as possible, i could see the others catch on to my plan as i got closer and had to stop myself from laughing at the confusion on her face.

" When did Alex leave?" Poor naive little Rebecca, i stopped right next to her and nodded at Bree.

" I'm right here!" I grabbed her in a hug and she screamed as i spoke. 6 down only the big player to go and then i could start on the avengers, and give James a little hand. As Becky stepped foot into the makeshift jail James burst from the woods chasing after Natasha, of course she wasn't overly much competition seeing as she wasn't even taking it seriously. James quickly tagged her and stopped to catch his breath next to me.

" how have you found so many already?" I smirked.

" this is how we learnt about covert ops, it's the same basic thought process, now if you'll excuse me. I have to find my main goal and try and catch her before she lets everyone loose." His eyes widened at the collection of superhero's that I had collected, i smiled at him and ran off in the direction he had just come. Melody would not have sat still this entire time, she will have been following me with her speed so I couldn't hear her footsteps.

Bucky's P.O.V

I stood, trying to convince the Ghost team to tell me where their team members had hidden when realisation struck, we were playing a kids game... and I was acting like it was a real mission, covert... sneaking around. Using the captured people for information, maybe this camping trip wasn't total bogus.

I heard a yelp from inside the forest followed by a yell.

" ALEXANDRA STARK! YOU DID NOT JUST DO THAT!" Confusion built up at the sound of Melody's voice, and the knowledge that Alex's full name was Alexandra. I turned towards the voices that seemed to be moving in a constant circle, a mixture of yells from both Alex and Melody.

Melody burst through the tree line in a blur and a whole minute later came Alex looking completely exhausted. Her hair stuck up in all directions and her face was pure concentration as she flung her hand up and Melody subsequently tripped over a large stone. Alex was quick to tag her as Melody complained about Alex using her powers to make her so dirty.

It was fairly easy to find the rest of them with Alex's help, and it was nice to spend time with someone who didn't think of me as an ex hydra assassin.

Maybe camping might be more fun than I thought.
