Arguments and Decisions

The world turned back into the sweet sound of my parents bickering about what to do next with their now-dead daughter.

"You're not sending her to that school for ghouls! It's not safe!"

"What do you want me to do? She's no longer our daughter!"

My mum pauses, the hurt in her eyes said it all.

"Alyssa, get up we're leaving."

"NO, YOU'RE NOT! SHE IS MY DAUGHTER!"

Mum spun around so fast I'm surprised she didn't fall over, "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. YOU DISOWN HER BUT ACCEPT HER WHEN IT SUITS YOU? YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS XAVIER!"

Dad stepped closer to mum, growling at the words she was saying. He actually growled at my mum. WTF has gotten into my parents.

"DID YOU JUST GROWL AT ME? YOU FERAL MAN!"

I stood between them and looked at each of them dumbfounded, "Are you two being serious right now? You guys are arguing over my life? Have you forgotten that I'm the one that was essentially forced to turn into this? I don't like our current situation either."

They stopped and looked at me, "Making a decision on how to deal with your ghoul daughter doesn't need to be hard. Can you stop yelling? It's fucking CHILDISH, and I am the kid here."

They said nothing. Instead, they turned away from me and left the doctor's office, heading back to the car. I look to Uncle Tom, he sat in his chair watching me with an understanding look on his face.

"Good Luck kid, I've seen families get torn apart by this fucking disease. Try to not let that happen to your family."

I nod with a sigh and follow my parents out to the car, taking an agonizing ride home with two very pissed-off parents. When we got home the fighting continued just like at the hospital. They were so hurtful and aggressive towards one another.

I gave up and walked towards my bedroom and laid there until morning when their fighting had finally ceased. Sitting across from them for the second day in a row gives me an uneasy feeling. I'm not going to like what they have to say but let's hope it's the better choice out of what they were deciding.

"Sweetheart, we understand that you've had a big couple of days. A lot of what has happened has been sho-"

"Like how the people that forced me to be ghoul still haven't been punished? Yeah, it's been pretty shocking Mum."

She reached forward and grabbed a hold of my hand, rubbing soft circles on the back of it.

"Look Sweetie, those people will be punished, but for now we need to find a safe and comfortable place for the new version of you."

I roll my eyes, was this really where they were going with it?

"That's funny that you say it like that because dad literally disowned me yesterday."

It was his turn to sign, pinch the bridge of his nose and clear his throat.

"Look Alyssa, love, I regret how I reacted yesterday. But see it from my point of view, my healthy daughter is now a zombie. It's had to process."

I hum in response. I mean what does he want me to do? Comfort him? It's my body we are talking about!

"Sweetheart, we understand how this is hard on you as well, so your father and I have thought of some ways to help you through your transition from human to, well, zombie."

I lean back in the rickety old wooden chair, my arms crossed and my eyebrows furrowed. I waited for them to say something new but we sat there in silence for a minute or two. It seems that they were nervous about proposing their idea to deal with my 'current situation' that is now a 'permanent situation'.

Dad breaks the silence, "We are planning on sending you to the zombie school in George. It's about an hour away from Serena and it has attached boarding houses. You'll be with more kids like you and you'll be safe."

"Mmhmm~ so you plan to send me to boarding school so you don't have to deal with my current state? And an hour away at that? There are ghoul schools in Serena, Dad. Are you embarrassed?"

Mum bursts into retched sobs, "We love you Alyssa, but sending you away will mean you've got more chances to do something with yourself in this state. I'm sorry Sweetheart but there is a lot of stigma and discrimination surrounding the ghouls. Your dad and I just want what's best for you."

"Whats's best? You're taking away from my family Mum, it's a bit hard to see it that way."

Dad stands up from his seat and walks over to my side. He yanks my chair back and yanks me to a stand. Before I can understand what's happening, Dad pulls me into a tight hug, little droplets wet my shoulders as I snuggle my face further into his chest.

"I'm going to miss you, dad."

"I'm going to miss you more little bug."

It's settled, I am leaving for West George Ghoul School with the contents of my room packed into suitcases I can carry and my brain is swimming for reasons to stay home.

Fuck Jordan and Charlie. They've made my life a living hell.
