"So, who's the guy you are seeing?" Yelena finally asked one afternoon. She didn't have to be a spy to notice that her sister didn't live alone in the house. She didn't want to push it, so she gave Natasha time to tell her on her own, but it was taking too long now and she really wanted to know. Her sister was always so picky.

Natasha laughed bitterly. "I was wondering when you will drop the bomb."

"Me? You are the one who needs to drop the bomb. So?" she urged her.

"Okay, fine," she sighed. "But just because it's you, sis. Do you remember the guy who was training us? Soldat?" she asked a seemingly innocent question.

Yelena froze. She did. Of course, she remembered him. For several reasons. She knew Natasha had feelings for him back then. She had a daily conversation with her about how much she was risking when she came in contact with him. But her stubborn sister couldn't help it, so one day their handlers found out. And they weren't happy.

"I need to go," she blurted out, standing up from the couch.

"What? Why?" the redhead did not understand.

Yelena didn't have time to answer. She had to get out of here immediately, and the front door was too far away, so she walked to the window. Fortunately, she was wearing her bracelets, so she opened the window, fastened the cable, and jumped out while Natasha called her name. She hoped Natasha wouldn't go after her because she really didn't want to explain why she was running away.

She was so upset that when she turned the corner, she didn't notice the person, who was walking along the sidewalk, so she ended up bumping into them.

"Sorry," she muttered an apology not to look rude and glanced at the stranger, which turned out to be a mistake because she looked into a familiar face. And when she saw him again after so many years, all she wanted was to punch him. Really hard. She was so angry!

All he did was stand still and stare at her in surprise. She shook her head and walked away. Except for Natasha, he was the only person she cared about. But obviously, he didn't care about her, when he's been walking around the world like an Avenger for some time and didn't reach out to her. He was free and he didn't bother to find her.

"Wait!" he yelled at her, but she didn't stop.

On the contrary. She quickened her pace. Her memories came back to the day when handlers had found that their dearest Black Widow and their Winter Soldier were secretly meeting together. She managed to warn them in time, and Soldat arranged for Natasha to get out. Him, on the other hand... They played with his head again and ordered him to kill Natasha, but Yelena couldn't allow that. So she started spending more time with him and helped him remember their redhead.

"I said wait," he said as he caught up with her thanks to the super serum and grabbed her shoulder.

"I don't want to see you," she replied in an icy cold voice and quickly broke free of his grip. But he waited for that, so instead, he immediately grabbed her hands.

"You don't do that," he whispered, almost broken, which take her a little aback. "You don't just show up and then disappear a second later."

Yelena looked into his eyes and her heart ached. It was her James and at the same time, it wasn't. "Don't," she muttered angrily. How dared he? He had never tried to contact her, and now he would give her lectures. She freed one hand to activate widow bites. She made sure she aimed at James's human hand, and when she struck him, she quickly slipped her other hand and began to run. She had only a few seconds.

She ran into a side alley and then randomly turned in a different direction several times so that James couldn't follow her so easily. She ran until she was sure he wasn't following her. Only then did she stop and take a deep breath. She slowly headed back to the main road, where an unpleasant surprise awaited her. As she turned the corner, James was waiting for her, leaning against the building.
