chapter 9

Austin's pov (i time skipped a bit)

Denise woke me up from my nap shaking my shoulder "get up! there's a shit ton of people climbing the walls and killing people!!" she yells "what the fuck?! I need to get to Carl and Judith!" I say standing up right as Rosita, Aaron some others bring in a blond girl "no u need to stay here now. we have a patient." she says in a calm voice. I snap right into work mode "operating table now! and get me an IV!" I yell and focus only on my patient while everyone is yelling around me "Denise put pressure on the wound! someone go get my gun it's next to the chair!" I say as Aaron and Rosita are leaving "internal bleed. possibly severed femoral artery. don't worry I'm gonna do my best to save you Holly. abdominal binder! Denise you're gonna pull the knife out!" I say "I cant I don-" she starts "no I need you. ur doing this." I tell her. almost half and hour later Hollys crashing "holly don't let go" I say quietly while doing chest compressions, I try even after the heart monitor goes flat till I have to give up. Denise rips the cord outta the machine. "you tried-" tara starts "just go see if it's over out there and if- please go all of you." Denise says very distraught "all I was gonna say is, make sure you get her brain" tara says to her before walking out.

-cut scene-

"Carl! Carl are you ok!" I yell opening the front door to see him coming down the stairs "oh good, I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you" i say pulling him into a hug "who's blood is this?" he asks stepping back a bit "oh shoot sorry bud, some blond girl Holly, i think, she came in with a stab wound. I couldn't save her." I say going into the downstairs bathroom to wash my hands "are you sad about that?" he asks from the doorframe "um, is it bad to say no. I mean I didn't even know the girl I'm more angry than anything, I couldn't fix a damn stab wound, I mean what if one day it's one of us -our group- on that table and I can't save you or maggie or... sorry." I say with a big frustrated huff "I gotta go back in a bit to see if anyone else needs help but Denise needed a minute, do you mind if I take Judie with me?" I ask I'm trying to give the kid a break from all the babysitting, even if he doesn't mind it "do you have a gun?" he asks "why wouldn't I?" I sass back at him "ok, you know where she is" he smiles

-cut scene-

Rick came back with a shit ton of walkers on his tail so now everyone that's left is listening to his speech not me though I'm on the verge of a panic attack thinking about Daryl. I gave Judith to Carl "I think i'm gonna puke" I whisper and run off to some random bush obviously not far enough away "anxiety?" Denise asks holding my hair back for me "ya, hopefully." I say spitting on the ground. I walked back over and Carol gave me a look that obviously meant we were gonna talk later. I walk up to rick when he's done talking "I'm sure he's perfectly fine Austin, he's lived this long and now he has more to come back to, he has you." Rick says while giving me a hug "thanks Rick, I just hope I can see his face again soon." I tell him.

-cut scene-

I'm in the house with Carol getting Judith's stuff around so I can take her with me "are you sure you should be around people with all the puking you've been doing" she asks "I think it's just anxiety. besides daryl would have caught something by now if it was contagious" I tell her "ok but if you get her sick I won't let you hear the end of it" she says pointing to Judith.

-cut scene-

I came back as tara was leaving "hey Denise, sorry it took me so long yknow coping with the thought of losing my lover and all, how is our patient?" I say closing the door and setting Judy in the play pen I set up earlier "I don't know what to do his legs infected" she says "oh" I say with a smile "sterile syringe, stick it in the infected area and take out the infection" I say handing her the syringe "are you sure?" she asks taking off his bandage doing as I say "100%" I say watching him(the patient) stabilize his breathing "see" I tell her "that's amazing!" she says. I stay till just before sunset "time to go home Jude" I tell her with a smile.

-cut scene-

it's the next day I'm back in the infirmary with Judith. Morgan came by acting kinda strange and took Denise with him so now it's just me and Judith and the patient. I hear someone come in "hey have you seen Denise?" Tara asks "nope, she left to help Morgan with something and hasn't come back" I tell her "well if you see her tell her i'm looking for her" she says "will do- um actually- hate to intrude but are you and her like a thing now or..." I ask "um I don't actually know, she kissed me yesterday so I think so but she never said anything, why?" Tara says "oh she was talking about you and I got suspicious, sorry." i say picking up Judith "no need to be sorry. catch ya later! bye Jude!" she says as she walks out.

-cut scene-

the tower fell. walkers are in Alexandria. Daryls still not back. nether is Denise. I'm stuck with Judith, I can't just get out of here because she could make noise but I need to make sure my family is alive out there. "what am I gonna do I cant just stay. I cant risk Judy either" i say thinking out loud 'ok you got this Austin, stay quiet, close the blinds, keep Judith quiet. you've been in plenty of herds before, just the difference now is you've got nowhere to run or hide' I think to myself trying not to panic. too late i'm sitting on the floor leaning against a wall while holding Judith and having a panic attack I dont know how long it's been but soon someone's calling my name and waving something in front of me. it's Heath "woah hey bud your having a panic attack" he says "no duh how could you tell... sorry. sorry that was mean" I say "it's all good man how long you been here?" he asks "all day" I tell him "the other guys must not have seen you earlier we came in couple minutes after the wall fell." Heath tells me "do I have any more patients?" I ask "no no we moved them up here tho just incase" he says "thank you" I say getting up to go down stairs "oh thank god" I hear Denise say before i'm engulfed in a hug when she's done I turn to Spencer and ask "have you heard or seen anything about Daryl or Carl or Rick or oh my god my entire family's out there I need to get them- no stay with Judith." they all stare at me and I feel like I'm about to collapse but I don't "um no I'm sorry I haven't" Spencer tells me "oh my god" I hear Aaron say from the window "it's the kid, is he bit?" Heath asks and I feel my knees buckle thankfully I'm not holding Judith right now "nope." Denise says and starts ordering Aaron, Heath, and Spencer to get things I try to stand up to help but I'm told to "sit right back down. you are not doing this." by Denise "but-" I start "no. you can't do this. you want Carl to live? your too shaky you might mess up." she tells me and I sit back down. I see his wound and instantly wanna help, I mean it's Carl he means a lot to me, to all of us. I stand up and go into "doctor mode" as I like to call it.

-cut scene-

when I'm done I turn to Denise "thank you, but. don't. you. ever. tell me what to do like that again." I say and she just nods a lot "I- is the lake on fire?" I ask looking out the window for the first time "ya it happened not too long ago, I dont know who did it but whoever it was saved everyone out there" she says.

-cut scene-

about 2 hours later I hear "Austin?!?" and bolt out of the chair and straight into my lovers arms "Daryl!!" words cant begin to tell how happy I am to see him "careful he got stabbed" Sasha tells me "sit right there I'll fix it, anyone else need medical attention?" I ask "ya this kid that was helping Glenn get Maggie off a guard tower, Abe um he accidentally shot the kid in the arm" Sasha tells me and then leaves probably to go get said kid. As I finish stitching Daryls arm Sasha walks back in with the kid and Enid "did the bullet go through your arm?" I ask him "nope just cut me, Maggie insisted I come see you, it's really not that bad" he says seemingly unfazed "ok well if u need stitches then ya it is that bad infection will kill ya if you let it, what's your name kid?" I ask "oh uh Victor, ya Victor Smith".
