Park Jisu

Honestly, it went better than I expected. We ended up exchanging numbers. For some reason, talking to her made me feel relieved? Like, I felt the weight on my shoulders melt away. In a way, it made me feel much better.

I decided to go for a walk. I mean it's good to take a walk once in awhile. It's good for the heart you know. After I parked my car, i started my evening walk. I wasn't planning on a long walk, just a few buildings down and back up again.

I could see the sun setting as I passed the third building. I felt the gentle cold wind brush against my bare face. The sky was a mix of warm colours displaying ease and comfort.

When I was 6, back when i was in New Zealand, I used to watch the sunset and sunrise from my balcony with my brother. Even though I hate majority of the memories I had from that house, doesn't mean I don't miss some bits of it.

Suddenly, the sounds of soft whimpers brought me back to reality. I looked around but it was getting dark, I was losing light by the second. I whipped out my phone and turn on the flash. There was street lamps but I'm a blind bitch so they were useless.

I kept looking around when I saw rustling in the bushes. I quickly shine my flashlight towards the bushes when something shiny caught my eye. By the time I grasped what I was looking at, I didn't waste much time to pull it into my embrace as my legs gave out, landing butt first on the pavement.

The fluffy fluff of fur was shaking in my arms. I tried to calm it down as I reached for its gold-plated collar tag.

Maeumi

Maeumi started snuggling into my tummy. As I continued to calm it down, my brain contradicting my hands as it was racing through what I should do next. Maybe post it on Social Media? Put it in the shelter? Should I keep it? No.

"Maeumi! C'mon boy, where are you! Please... please come back! I'll give you all the treats, Ill bring you out more often and I'll play with you more! Im sorry, Maeumi!" An all too familiar voice thundered.

I rolled my eyes when the familiar figure stood 5 meters in front of me. Jungwon's watery eyes made contact with mine as he ran towards me.

When he got closer, Maeumi shot up from my lap and ran towards him, barking like a dog that finally found it's long lost owner.

"Are you crying?" I questioned the obvious. Mentally facepalming. I should learn to shut the fuck up.

He lifted the puppy, cradling it delicately in his arms. I realised I never really looked at him properly in our previous encounters. My eyes travelled to examine him. His hair was disheveled, his cheeks were flushed with tear stains and his eyes were red, tears filled to the brim. I watched a few more tears slip as I heard him sigh, a sigh of relief.

"Thanks, Jisu. I would've killed myself if I lost Maeumi." He says as he sat beside me.

"Don't say that, Jungwon. You don't mean that." I say shaking my head. My eyes still trained on Maeumi, who was licking Jungwon's arm.

It was silent as the both of us stared at Maeumi. I wanted to stay quiet but my brain nagged at me to break the awkwardness. I sigh in defeat as I opened my mouth to say something, I caught him already looking at me.

"What." I hastily asked.

He smirked, shaking his head as he swiftly turned his gaze back to Maeumi.

"Is it a boy or a girl?" I questioned.

Maeumi is obviously a Unisex name. I didn't want to assume or offend it in any way, shape or form.

"Maeumi's a boy. He's a maltese" He let out chuckle.

I felt my cheeks warm up at the sight of his dimples. I let a smile play on my lips too. I'm a softie for dimples. Sue me.

Maeumi noticed my presences again, standing up and waddling towards me. Setting his lil' ass down on my lap, playing with my fingers.

"He seems to like you."

"I don't blame him, I'm too likeable." I say confidently.

I could tell my words left him taken aback, hell even i was. However, he gracefully collected himself, playing a smirk on his lips. I could tell he wanted to say something but my phone started ringing.

I looked at the Caller ID and picked up.

"Park Jisu? Where in the pits of hell are you? Your car's in the carpark but your dumbass isn't. It's 7pm. Please come back home now." The worried voice belonged to Yujin.

"Yeah, I'm on my way. I was taking a short walk but something came up. I'll be there in awhile." I replied, ending the call.

"Let's go home too, Maeumi. Eomma's worried." Jungwon says to Maeumi in a baby voice as he slowly stood up brushing dirt off his pants.

I watched as he attached a leash on Maeumi's collar. A cute blue-ish green coloured leash. We started walking down the path and back towards our apartment building.

We were walking in silence. My social anxiety was starting to creep up on me until Jungwon said something.

"sorry, i didn't catch that. can you repeat?" i asked

"i was just wondering why you didnt attend school today... did i scare you off? if i did i would like to apologise." Jungwon said, bowing his head slightly while scratching his neck.

"no, no! it's definitely not your fault! i just had a doctor's appointment today, so i couldn't make it to class." I quickly responded, waving my hands in attempt to prove my point. How could he blame himself for my absence in class? However, him asking me this question, reminded me of the events that happened earlier today which caused me to let out a sigh.

"Rough day, huh." he replied, but i didn't respond.

"Well, how about you come by my house today for dinner? My mom prepared some really good side-dishes and the main-course itself is delicious. Maeumi could also help cheer you up. You can invite your sister too. The more the merrier." Jungwon suggested with a cheeky smile.

I looked up, the streetlamps illuminating above us, helping me see his face a little more clearly. His cheeks still tear-stained. I also took notice how tall he was compared to me. I was a proud 165 cm but i didn't think a 10 cm difference would be so drastic. It seemed like we both had it rough today. For some reason bumping into him today made me feel a little better and i didnt want to part from him just yet.

"Fine, i'll go visit you for dinner. Also, Yujin isnt my sister. She's my... roommate." I didn't feel the need to tell him the truth about who Yujin actually is. It just makes me feel safer that he doesn't know too much about me.
