He was gently walking in the street, his friend by his side. It was a cool Saturday evening, a few days before Christmas. It had snowed earlier during the night so he could feel his foot freezing. He shivered and his friend laugh.

"Don't worry we are almost there."

He nodded in understanding. Today would be a good day, they were visiting his friend's mother who lived at the other side of the town. He liked this woman, she always spoiled him when they came to see her. Plus, she was a great baker and even him could taste the delicious food she liked to make.
He went faster, excited and impatient to be there. He observed the environment, as it was not a part of the town he knew very well. They were rarely invited by the woman and most of the time his friend would go there alone, living him minding his own business at home. These days were quite boring and he was very happy to come this time. He would have ask if they would be there soon if he was able to speak. But he couldn't so he kept quiet, waiting for them to arrive.

A few minutes later, his friend knocked at her mother's door. She opened it and smiled at them, asking them to hurry not to let the cold air go inside of the house. She gave a hug to her daughter and smiled and the other one.

"Hi there! It has been a long time!"

"Sorry mom, I was busy lately"

"oh don't worry dear, enjoy your youthful years! Oh I wish I could be young again like you!"

"Well, it is not that pleasant mom" she sighed. "I.. Have be through a lot lately and I am not doing well."

"Oh I am so sorry dear. Is there anything I could help you with?"

The mute one frowned. Why hadn't she told him anything? He sat near them and kept listening to their conversation.

"Remember my friend Moon? They are gone. I had no news for a long time so I asked their parents. They shooted at me and told it was my fault. But I have done nothing, neither did they! I don't understand what's going on, I don't know where they are and I am so worried."

"Oh honey, I wish I could help you. Have you asked his friend -what was his name- Clay ?"

"Yes.. He tried to hack their phone and promised to keep me in touch. But I doubt his success. He has never done it before."

"Well at least his parents seem to know where Moon is, they must not be endangered."

"I hope so. But from what they told me about them I'm not so sure about it."

The young girl's phone rang from her jacket and her friend gave it to her.

"Thank you Oliver."

He sat back and the girl answered the call. She went in the bathroom for more privacy and Oliver came closer to the mom.

"I know I shouldn't keep this from her but I'm afraid of what she could do. I know she does care a lot for Moon but.. It's better this way."

Oliver growled. He didn't like the fact that the mother was hiding something from her daughter. Even more if it was about Moon. He really liked them. They had always been very kind to him, paying attention to him when no one did.

"It was Clay. He traced Moon's phone and it has not moved since their disappear. It is located in a the middle of a forest, a hundred miles from here. What the fuck would they do there?! We agreed to go and look for them tomorrow."

Her mom looked abashed and anxious.

"Why do you both want so to know so bad what happened? There might be a reason why he left without letting you know. Maybe you should just leave him alone."

"Are you serious?! Moon is my best friend! Of course I do worry! How can you not understand that! And Moon is not a boy mom! I told you that a million times! They are a person! "

She furiously took her jacket from the coat hanger.

"I leave you Oliver for the time we will go. Take care of him better than you care of my worries."

The second after, the door slammed and she was gone. Oliver barked angrily, understanding his friend's anger. Her mom looked exhausted and sat down at the dinner table, supporting her head with her hand.

"Oliver, be a good dog will you? I know I have made a mistake but she will be OK. They will all be okay."

They better be.
