K I T
I was woken up to someone knocking on my door at 2 AM. I rolled over, thinking it was just the wind, fully intent on going back to sleep. The knock came again. I sighed and got up and walked down the hall and opened the door with no shirt on. A girl stood there in a black nightgown and messy light brown hair flowing down her back. Her fingers looked blue as did her lips.
"A-are you ok? Get in here." I said to her. She took one step and fell, too weak to hold herself up anymore. I quickly caught her before she hit the ground. I quickly placed her down on the couch.
She was unconscious and her body was like ice. Her lips and fingers were blue. I whimpered. I don't like seeing someone suffer.
I quickly sprung into action and ran into the kitchen, flicking on lights around the house as I did so. I put the kettle on for some tea, grabbed a blanket and ran to the laundry room and put the blanket into the drier.
By this time, I was fully awake. I went back to the kitchen to grab a bowl of hot water and carefully put one of her hands into it. Once that hand was warm, I'd do the other one.
I heard the drier buzz and I grabbed the blanket and tucked her in in like a brito. I heard the kettle go and I ran back for that.
When I had placed the hot mug of tea on the coffee table, I checked her hand.
'Seems good enough.' So I switched hands. There wasn't anything else I could do other then wait for her to wake up.. whoever she was.

Around 5, she stirred and opened her eyes. When she saw me standing there, she smiled. Seemed to know who I was.
"Uh hi there, sweet face. Did I wake you up?" She shook her head. "Keralis?" I nodded. "Seems you know who I am." I sat down in the chair a little bit away from her. "What's your name? What did you knock my door at this time of night?"
She sighed. "Parents didn't want me. My name is Kathrine, but you can call me Kit." I smiled a bit more.
"Here. I got you some tea. Sorry if you don't drink that. I can make hot chocolate if you prefer." She shook her head again. "No I actually love tea. Thanks." She took the hot mug from my hands and almost melted at the warmth.
"You had hypothermia when you knocked on my door." She nodded. "I'll leave you be. I'll just be down the hall if you need me."
I got up to walk away when I felt her grab my shirt sleeve. "I'll be out my morning. I promise."
I shook my head. "I was going to ask if you would like to live here? You could be my daughter. How old did you say you are?" I asked.
"Only 9." She mumbled. "Then consider this as your home and me, your dad. If you want anyway." She smiled and nodded.
"Thank you, Keralis."
(A little short. But proud of it.)
