I start to open Dannys bandage and unwrap it. When I finally get to the last piece of bandage it's red and yellowish. Which means blood and a bit of inflammation and that is very painful. I look at him with a "what did I say" face and ask for an explanation. "Why didn't you just say?" He looks down but answers me "I don't know... Didn't want to be more inconvenient." I tell him to sit still and just eat his dinner. I walk the small trip to the hospital which is maximum 5 minutes to get some disinfectant and cotton to remove the inflammation. I get back and Danny is still sitting by the table, as I told him to. I cleanse the wound while he groans and moans in pain. Then I change the entire bandage and kiss him on the cheek before I sit down on my chair and eat the rest of my now lukewarm food. He looks guilty at me. "I'm sorry, I should just have told you." He says with a small voice. I look up at him "It's okay I know why you did it. You just can't. You have to be honest with me and you are NOT inconvenient. So be honest, always." He nods "Yes Captain!" And we both laugh knowing that he's a Major and therefore ranked over me.

We have washed the dishes and I'm just waddling around at the moment. The baby keeps kicking and I can't sit down comfortably. Danny keeps asking if I need anything but really I just need to sit down, and that's apparently not an option according to this baby... "I think I'll head over to the hospital and see if they need my help with anything." I say to Danny and he nods "Okay, do you want me to walk you there?" He asks and I answer "No it's okay, I'll be fine" and smile at him.

I step through the doors into the hospital and everything seems pretty silent but then I meet Barbara who's running around like a chicken without a head. "What's going on?? May I help with anything?" I ask her and she just nods and grabs my hand. "The doctors are operating on a soldier from midway and there's a woman in labour but they can't help us." She stops and takes a deep breath "We have to deliver the baby!" I gasp and look at her like she's crazy but then realises we just have to get ourselves together and do it. I find a bowl and fill it with hot water before I find a bunch of towels and follow Barbara to the room the pregnant lady is in. Normally women give birth at home but since all doctors were occupied she came to us. This woman is young about the same age as Betty would have been by now if she hadn't died and she's scared to death. "I can't do this, I can't... Please!" She says with pain in her eyes. I sit down on a chair beside her bed and take her hand. "What's your name?" I ask patiently. "My name is Helen. Helen Green." I look her in the eyes "As in born Green or married Green?" I ask her, scared about the answer. She looks down but answers with a teary voice "Married Green..." I look down... A soldier named Jack Green was taking hostage in the Doolittle raid Danny has told me and that must be why there's no man with her. "Okay Helen listen to me very carefully, you are gonna do this okay? Everything is gonna be alright. I promise you that. I'll be right here with you through it all." She looks at me again but this time with a new look in her eyes. "I'll do it for him!" I nod and squeeze her hand "Exactly!"

A couple of hours later she still hasn't delivered the baby but she is just dialated enough. Barbara and I then decide to start the birth. Helen starts to push and we can't see a baby head but a baby butt... Barbara and look at eachother with panic in our eyes and just yell "stop pushing!" Then I hear Dannys voice talking to one of the other nurses. I waddle-runs out to find him asking about me. I grab his left hand and pull him with me into the labor room. "Helen I know that you are scared and there shouldn't be a man in here but we really need his help, is that okay?" She nods with panic in her eyes.
