We walked back down the halls with Kalim. My cramps returned mid-flight, so I was leaning heavily on Yuu. They softly ran their fingers through my braids as Grim pranced ahead with Kalim.

"That was so much fun!" Grim cheered.

"I'm glad you had a good time. It looks like it's almost time for dinner," Kalim noted while looking around the hall.

Jamil walked towards us from the other side of the hall with purpose in his strides. "Kalim, you're finally back. There's something I want you to check before dinner. Will you come?"

"Ah, okay sure," Kalim pointed a hand further down the hall. "You three can start heading to the lounge."

"Okay, thank you," Yuu nodded to Kalim and Jamil in turn before ushering Grim and I to the lounge area we were in before. The open arches gave perfect view of the night sky over the desert. The hanging lanterns had an ambiance of serenity as everyone chatted amongst themselves. Some were curious about dinner and others complained about the difficult training regimen. As Yuu sat me down on some of the cushions from before, Grim praised the Scarabia dorm nonstop.

"This place is paradise compared to our cold dorm," he compared. "Kalim is such a good guy. I wanna be a student at this dorm now~"

"I'm sure they'd love to have an accident-prone fire hazard like you," I grumpily spat out as I leaned back and closed my eyes.

"Is everyone here?" Jamil's voice stopped me from nodding off. I opened my eyes and looked at the vice dorm leader. "Our prefect has an announcement before we eat."

When I turned my attention to Kalim, I saw something was off. His eyes were still red, but they seemed to swirl. A purple miasma leaked from his sclera. I leaned forward as other students murmured around us.

"Oh yeah, Kalim said earlier that he wanted to stop training and tomorrow send everyone home for vacation," Grim recalled. "I'm sure everyone will be happy, but I'm gonna be sad we won't be able to eat the delicious food they have during break."

"Do you judge people on how well they feed you?" Yuu sighed as they pet they grey beast.

Kalim stared blankly over the crowd. In a flat tone he started, "During this vacation, I planned for all of Scarabia to stay at the dorms and study six hours every single day, but I've realized..."

He realized...

"THAT'S NOT ENOUGH AT ALL!"

"What?!" Yuu and I exclaimed.

"Eh?!" was the collective gasp of everyone else.

Jamil seemed tense and flustered as he questioned his prefect, "Kalim, didn't you say you were going to send everyone home?!"

"This isn't what he said earlier at all!!" Grim panicked.

Something isn't right

"There's no way we can catch up with only six hours a day," Kalim continued. "We need to work two- no, five times harder than the other dorms! We won't be able to clean the name of our dorm otherwise! Starting tomorrow, all of you will be doing five hours of studying and for hours training."

"Eh?! Nine hours of work every single day?!" Grim grumbled.

"After dinner, we are going to have special defense training! Eat quickly and be ready."

The surrounding students gave a terrified, "Y-yes!!!" They all hurried to eat the meal in front of them.

Kalim walked over to us. As he got closer, the mist around his swirling red eyes became clearer. The slight sparkles in it confirmed that it was magic. He commanded, "Since you three visited Scarabia, you will be participating too. You got that?!"
