I'm still talking to Elijah as my sister lays in her bed, asleep. I decided to finish the story while she get some rest before we go. "No one but Sophie ever questioned the Harvest. Not even our own mother. So, neither did we. We thought it was such an honor, we had such faith. We were so stupid."
"So, how did it begin?" He asked as I sit on my bed and he comes and have a sit next to me. Oh god, I've never been this close to a guy that I'm starting to like. Happy thoughts Delilah, don't let him hear your heart trying to beat out of your chest. "Do I make you nervous?"
I look at him and bite my lip. "I've been hearing things about your family every since you returned to town. I've met Rebekah and Klaus sadly, but you're so different. I actually like that about you." He smiles and stares into my eyes.
"I'm glad you feel that way." He place his hand on top of mines. "You don't have to be so nervous around me, sounds like you're about to have heart attack."
I take slow and deep breaths, I can't believe HIS HAND IS ON MINES. I can't breath, but I'm breathing....does that make sense, does it even matter!!! HE'S TOUCHING ME!! "Um, they were led out like princesses for the um Harvest. Our mother was so proud. The girls kneeled in a row in the middle of a crowd of people. Bastiana, one of the elders, called upon the four elements to bind their past and future magic together. Earth, to connect them to our ancestors."
"Water, to heal the community. Wind, to carry them to our ancestors and back. Fire, to purify. After all of their preparation, they knew exactly what to expect. For weeks, they told them that the magic in the knife they used to cut their palms would put them to sleep, and that later at the Reaping, they would all be resurrected. They said they would awaken, and all be together and more powerful than ever. And it was just like they rehearsed it."
"All that was left was a little cut on their palms for the blood sacrifice. The first girl, Abigail, stood up to begin the Harvest, but we were interrupted when Sophie ran into the cemetery yelling for Bastianna stop. Even after Sophie tried to stop it, we didn't suspect anything. I tried to ask my mom what was happening but, she ignored me. When Abigail held out her hand for the blood sacrifice, Bastianna slit her throat instead, and the young witch fell to the ground."
"My sister and the other two girls started to scream in terror, but they were also restrained by fellow witches so that they couldn't run away. Our own mother stared straight ahead as her daughter screamed, ignoring how terrified she was. I tried to run and save my sister, but they held me back. I screamed and yelled and punched and kicked but, I couldn't get to her."
"My mother didn't care, she didn't care about her two daughters fighting for her attention, she didn't care that one of her daughters was about to die while the other was sick and already dying, she didn't give a damn!!"
Elijah looks at me in shock, clearly appalled by how my sister was treated. I quietly cry as I sit here and retell that night. "Everyone involved in the ritual knew that this would happen?"
"Except the five of us. They weren't putting them to sleep, they were slaughtering them! They killed Cassie next despite her protest. Then it was Monique's turn. We begged for someone to help. Our own mother turned away from us. Sophie screamed and screamed for her sister, anyone, to do something, but no one did."
"And yet, your sister survived. Therefore, someone or something intervened." I nod with my eyes filled with tears.
"Yea. Someone finally did. While all the screaming was going on, a shrill whistle was heard, and a group of vampires, led by Marcel, infiltrated the cemetery. They immediately start killing the witches. A vampire bit Bastianna and fed on her until she died, and when her body fell to the ground, so did the athame in her hand. Another vampire bit and killed our mom. I didn't even care, but throughout all that Agnes picked up the knife from the ground, grabbed Monique, and slit her throat with it."
