"Six hours of hell then we're free." Matt says excitedly, unrolling the window of his Ford.

Warm, morning air blows into car, heating it instantly.

I get overly warm and start to sweat.

Matt flips back his brown, wavy hair and smiles. A little blush makes his cheeks pink.

"What?" I ask, a little annoyed. Although I'm not sure why.

"You know Lindesy Collin?" He asked, turning on an orange light.

"Urgh... the girl from music?"

Matt nods eagerly, "yeah. She invited us to a party tonight."

A frown formed upon my face.

A party.

Where everyone from school would be.

"She invited US?"

The thing is, I met Matt in grade nine choir. He played guitar, and could even sing. I sang, played piano, guitar and numerous other instruments. In grade nine Matt was shy, and quiet. Like myself. We weren't popular, and neither of us had many friends.

"Hi. Want to start a band?" I had asked him one day during music class. Matt had smiled and responded with a "one day."

I soon discovered that Matt lived only one street away from me, and so we met up every morning and afternoon.

Something changed on the first day of grade 11 though.

matt was all grown up.

His skinny arms became muscular, his smile became brighter, his voice became deeper and he became popular. Every girl wanted him, everyone knew him and everyone wanted to be him.

Even I wanted to be him.

Like Matt, I had grown too. But not handsome and muscular. Instead I got fatter and uglier. Even though I stood beside Matt, and even though everywhere he went, I went, nobody noticed me.

Nobody cared about me, nobody wanted to be me.

Matt's loud sigh dragged me back into the realworld. He took the key out of his car and snapped off his seat belt.

"Yes. US, Josh."

Something told me he was lying, but I didn't argue.

I swung open my door and slammed it with a force not intended.

"Hey Matt!" People had noticed Matt's arrival and stood clo

se by. Staring up at him with adoring gazes.Matt shot back a few "hey's" and "sup's" before we scrurried into the school.

"I have music." I mumbled to Matt, staring off into the direction of my locker.

"I know. See you at lunch."
