I woke up to the stupid default alarm tone, I never got around to changing it, as much as it scared me it always managed to wake me up. I had gotten a message the other day from Corey asking us if Moora and I could look after his house. He was a family friend, I've known him for as long as i can remember being in this family. I don't remember much of my dad, he left when I was young and I never really saw him again. Moor's dad stepped in and he instantly made me feel like my biological dad never really left.Corey owned the original conjuring house, spooky as right? He was the one who taught me about my ability. When we first met him we went to his house and I asked why there was a little boy in the window, but there was no one. That's when we discovered I was able to see and hear spirits and entities.
I got out of bed and took my clothes into our bathroom, Moora and I moved out when we turned 19 and bought ourselves an apartment in Providence, Rhode Island, it was nice and cozy, we had lots of stuff from home that we hung up around the place.
I took a shower and as i was leaving Moora walked out, hair all over the place and bags under her eyes.
"morning!" i said cheerily
"someone's cheery this morning. Remind me why we have to be up this early?" her voice was scruffily, indicating she was half asleep.
"Corey asked us to look after the house, he's got to be gone by 10 and it's a half hour drive. It's also not even that early, you need better sleep." she put the finger up at me when I said that, mumbling incoherent words to herself.
Moora slept either 14 hours or 4, there was no in between for her. She was diagnosed with insomnia when she was about 15 and was prescribed melatonin to help, she's got some sitting in the medical cabinet in the bathroom. She never bothers to take it, it's as if she doesn't want to help herself or maybe she just likes staying up and sleeping in late, she never spoke to me about it and I never mentioned it.
I sat myself down on the couch with a sigh, I wasn't particularly fond of the house, it's got entities in there that make me uneasy, but I'd do anything for Corey, he's done so much for us and it's only fair we pay him back.
"why are you so dressed up? Are you having a date with the devil?" Moora joked, clearly still waking up.
"at least I don't look homeless" i replied, using a calm tone
"you wound me. comfort all the way babes, and i'm yet to shower" Moora opened the fridge and poured herself a cup of orange juice. She was wearing a baggy jumper she had kept from her ex girlfriend. It was a nice jumper and they broke up ages ago. It no longer had value, i don't think.. and a pair of sweatpants from some thrift store. I however was wearing a pair of jeans i had painted on and a top I made out of a dress. Like one of those cottage core dresses, it was too long for me so i turned it into a cute cropped shirt. I had layered my necklaces and done light makeup so my freckles were still visible, they were my favourite thing about myself.
Moora walked down the stairs after showering and leaned against the kitchen bench, she said she wouldn't dress up but still managed to. She was wearing a white collared shirt with a black long sleeve and a band tee over the top. Moora specialised in layering her clothing, especially it being winter. She had brown straight leg pants and dark brown converses on her feet. She had also changed all her earrings and wore a single cross necklace, her hands were coated with all sorts of rings, thick ones, thin ones, band ones.
"who's the one having a date with the devil?" I repeated her statement from earlier.
"I can look good and still be comfortable." she replied with an irritated tone
"what the fuck is wrong with you"
"Becca's with another chick. Posted on her story, some new years kiss or whatever" her voice was low.
"first of all it's Rebecca, not Becca, that'll only keep you attached and who cares. It's been almost a year Moor. You shouldn't even be thinking about her anymore" I hated seeing her strung up over something like this. Rebecca was awful to her. She was manipulative and used Moor in any way she seemed she could have. Pleasure, money she treated her terribly. Yet Moor is still strung up on her.
"I think you just need to get laid" I said
"I what? Cia you know im not that kinda person, I don't do one night stands or whatever."
"Well let's find you someone else then." I was determined to get rid of this bitch who still managed to hang around a year after Moor broke up with her.
"Ciana I don't need a new person yet. I'm fine right now. I want to wait for the right person. Would you like some toast?"
"yes please" Moora put four pieces of toast in the toaster and started grabbing spreads from the cabinets.
"look all i'm saying is you need to get her out of your head. Here pass me your phone" I reached out from the couch and waited for her to place it in my hands. Eventually she did, I could tell she was reluctant but she knew it had to be done, it just wasn't possible for her.
I opened app after app after app blocking every single at she had of contacting Moora.
"I don't want to just meet someone on some dating app Cia, I want to actually know them, fall in love with them before anything gets real. you know what im saying" I nodded in agreement. The toast popped and she spread peanut butter on the pieces before passing me my plate.
We finished our breakfast, brushed our teeth and grabbed our bags before leaving to head to the dreaded 'Conjuring House'.
