Nat and Wanda had been married for three years, and always wanted children. Recently they had been wanting to add to their little family.
They first looked into adoption. They applied to adopt but the government wouldn't allow it. Their jobs were deemed to dangerous for a child to be around. Them taking risks every few weeks or days at a time. And Nats past.. the government said that it wasn't her past crimes but the enemy's she had made, they couldn't risk letting them have a child that wasn't biologically theirs be exposed to that and potentially be put into danger. Nat and Wanda tried to argue their case in court and after an emotional rollercoaster of a court case that drained both women and their other team mates was ultimately decided as a No.
Then they tried IVF, twice. Wanda being the one to carry the child due to Nats lack off uterus. She was taken off training and missions both times they tried IVF, as they needed to be careful it was already a high risk pregnancy as is. This was because of Wandas time in hydra, the doctors had no clue on what hydras' so called 'doctors' had put in Wanda's body. As the data collected when Sokovia fell was useless.
The first attempt was extremely emotionally draining for both Wanda and Nat. The first week was okay, they did the procedure and Wanda was fully healthy being monitored 24/7 to ensure she was safe and Nat never left her side, choosing to sleep in the medical wing- on a hospital chair to be closer to her wife. The nights following something triggered Wandas PTSD of hydra. That something was the one thing keeping her safe. She struggled even going in the med bay for a mandatory post mission check ups, yet alone sleeping in there. Nat woke up at 2am to find a fear striking scarlet mist leaking from Wandas hands, as she thrashed about in her bed in a cold sweat coating her body, small whimpers could be heard as Wanda's mind pulled her back to the horrifying events of her life. Suddenly she awoke with a scream as Nat sat next to her hugging Wanda tightly as a mean of comfort. "Sshhh you're safe I won't let you go Hun" Nat said softly into Wanda's ear rubbing her back as she sobbed into Nats chest. "Deep breaths baby, okay?" Nat assured Wanda she was safe and helped her breathing return to a regular pace, "Better?" Nat asked knowing Wanda wouldn't talk about it - she never did, not once. "Yea-a" Wanda stuttered out still trying to calm down. "That's good, keep breathing deeply, okay? Friday ask Bruce to come to med bay please?" Nat said and was met with "of course Mrs. Maximoff-Romanoff" Friday said and alerted Bruce as instructed. The reason Nat called Bruce was that She feared for what could happen to her wife and unborn child. Stress was never good for a pregnant person or their child and Nat knew this so she called Bruce as a precaution.
"Hey are you okay Wanda?" Bruce asked when he walked in on wanda shaking in Nats grasp. "she had a nightmare, but I'm worried about the effect on her health, and our kids'" Nat explained to let Wanda focus on breathing deeply. "Okay that's fine I will check her obs gimme a sec?" Bruce said while pulling out the equipment for the simple tests.
