The Arrival

Present Day

Forks, Washington is a cold, damp, dreary place and everywhere I looked all I could see was green. Nighttime had fallen over the small town. After making my way across the ocean, a dreadful task really, I had quickly found myself a snack in the form of a few muggers and then rented a car. The teal 430 BMW I chose was currently playing some peppy pop song from the stereo. Not being bothered to change it I tapped my fingers along to the catchy tune.

Pulling up to Carlisle's home I couldn't help but feel slightly jealous. Not only was the house stunning with its wood finishes and glass windows covering the entire one side of the house. But I could already hear the sound of the many vampires who lived there. His family. He had a wife and children, for all intents-and-purposes. And while I love Luka and Ishani more than anything, life could be incredibly lonely on your own with no partner to share it with. Especially when I have spent so long being alone.

Refusing to dwell on the thought of my mate, I stepped out of the car. Before I could shut the door behind me a pair of arms had wound themselves around my neck. I tensed momentarily, a reaction that could not be helped as my body prepared for an attack, before a familiar voice rang out into the night sky.

"You came!" Alice squealed in my ear, the noise making me wince.

"Of course I came Alice. Don't be so surprised." I patted her back awkwardly as the pixie girl finally pulled away.

She rolled her golden eyes at me, "Everything you do is a surprise Elsie. I wish you would just let me keep an eye on you."

"No." My voice was firm but not cold, "I am sorry Alice but I do not need you watching my decisions, seeing my every move."

     "But-"

A new voice cut her off, "Come now Alice, leave the poor woman alone before she decides to leave us here."

"Jasper, it's lovely to see you again Major."

"Ma'am." His smile was playful as Alice tucked herself under his arm.

Jasper had always been my favorite of Carlisle's children, with Rosalie a close second. He also happens to be the only one who I haven't commanded to not use their powers on me. Mostly because I knew he would never do so without my permission, and I promised him the same. He understood too much what it was like to be controlled and we held enough respect for one another to trust we wouldn't have to use our powers on each other.

"Now," I clapped my hands together and the sound echoed, "are we going to stand here all night? Or are you going to take me inside so I can figure out why I am here and who the human I can smell you are hiding in there is?"

Bella Swan

The atmosphere in the room was...strange. Despite everything that was going on with the newborn army, most of the Cullen siblings were buzzing with excitement over the incoming arrival. When Carlisle had announced that an old friend of his, a woman called Elsie, was coming to town he had a soft look on his face that I had never seen before. Esme was her usual calm, loving self. Rosalie was happier than I had ever seen her before and even Jasper had smiled more in the last 24 hours than usual.

Edward however, he is incredibly tense. He won't tell me much about Elsie other than I should avoid making her angry. That she is incredibly powerful and even though she is coming here to help us fight, she shouldn't be trusted. He kept me slightly behind him in the back of the room so that we would be the last Elsie would get to. Edward hardly moved, didn't pretend to breathe, and kept his stoic face directed towards the entryway.
