"C'mon Heather. Come out with us." My best friend Keri pleaded with me.
I signed wearily. The last thing I wanted to do was go out. "I can't. I have plans." I lied.
Keri snorted."Yeah, plans. I bet you're in your pajamas. Got your hair in a bun and some kind of mud mask on your face. You're probably about to watch some sappy movie on Netflix with a pint of Ben and Jerry's."
"I hate you." I stuck my tongue out at her, despite the fact that she could not see me since we were on the phone. I felt so called out as I looked down at my comfy pajamas and fuzzy socks. My hair was in a bun. I did have on a mask and I did have three pints of Ben and Jerry's calling my name.
"No you don't. You love me. Being alone tonight is the very last thing you need. You need your friends, you need fun and you need to stop moping and feeling sorry for yourself. I'm here to save you from eating your feelings. Go wash your face, put on some makeup and something cute. We'll pick you up in an hour."
She hung up before I could reply. Maybe I should go out. What good would crying over Mark do for me? Why should he have that power over me? I had finally broke free from the hold he had over me. I should be celebrating that I didn't marry him, not wallowing over it.
Where were we even going anyway? I had no clue what to wear, so I called Keri back.
"Nope. You are not backing out. Chelsie and I will drag you out in your pajamas if we have to." Keri said as soon as she answered the phone.
I laughed. "I'm not backing out. I just need to know where we are going so I know what to wear."
"Drinks and Karaoke. We are taking an Uber so we don't have to worry about driving." She replied.
"Perfect. See you soon." I hung up.
I washed the mask off of my face and applied my makeup, deciding to go a bit bolder with smoky eye makeup and winged liner.
I dressed in my favorite distressed skinny jeans, a white tank top and red heels. I curled my long, light brown hair and left it loose, so it looked full and sexy.
I checked myself out in the mirror satisfied. My jeans hugged my ass just right. The heels made my legs look longer and and my tank top showed off my cleavage.
Minutes later, my friends arrived and quickly ushered me out since a car was waiting.
"Girl, you look hot." Chelsie exclaimed.
"Eat your heart out Mark." Keri chimed in with a laugh.
Once we arrived at the bar however, my confidence began to fade, and I wished I was back home with the only men in my life who had never let me down: Ben and Jerry.
"I know that look Heather, you're regretting coming out tonight." Keri wrapped her arm around my shoulder.
"You need to find a kick ass song and get up on that stage and just belt it out." Chelsie out her other arm around my shoulder.
"Find something to put him on blast. Sing your feelings. Get mad. Let him have it." Keri added.
That actually wasn't a bad idea.
First, I needed some liquid courage, so I headed to the bar, I already had an idea of what to sing.
It took three shots of tequila, but, but now I'm standing on stage, all eyes on me as I wait for my cue.
I know I'm probably better off on my own
Than lovin' a man who didn't know
What he had when he had it
And I see the permanent damage you did to me
Never again, I just wish I could forget when it was magic
I wish it wasn't four am, standing in the mirror
Saying to myself, you know you had to do it I know
The bravest thing I ever did was run
