THM Chapter 18

Chapter 18

What have we done? Is the question that rang inside my head the second I gazed up and saw her.

I watch her as she sits completing our little circle of friends casually as if she always belongs here, with that silly smile on her lips that doesn't quiet reach her eyes. If a normal person smiles that way I would think they are being friendly, but right now I know its anything but friendly. In fact its enough to send a chill to my bones. Her mismatched eyes fixed on me as she watches me from under those bangs.

This is the longest second of my life, it feels like hours has passed. I can see Kai and Evan from the corner of my eyes in a frozen state staring at her in horror. I want to move my gaze away from her but I can't.

My mind stops running wild when i try to move away from her but realize my hand can't move. Its stuck to the planchette. Even Kai and Evan try to move their hands away but it wont.

I know there is no use in running away, we cant escape her no matter how far we move. In fact we cant move at all. The room is quiet, the only thing I can hear is our heavy heart beat. While she sits there and watch us as a Hawk watches it's prey.

I see something moving behind her from my peripheral view, finally finding enough courage I shift my gaze from her and focus on whats moving. I'm not surprised to see Oreo walking towards her and nesting itself between her legs comfortably. Unlike always Oreo isn't glaring anymore. He seems calm sitting with her like an innocent, loving pet.

Not knowing what to do, the three of us keep watching her as she watches us. after what feels like hours she raise one of her hands and brings it closer to the planchette and place her finger tips on the little empty place on the side of the planchette like she is playing the game with us.

The three of us try to move our hands away from her but we fail. Again.

The planchette moves away from yes and slowly towards the alphabets. first it stops at A, then moves towards S, and then finally towards K.

ASK.

I break my gaze from the board and look over to Kai and Evan who are exchanging glances too. I finally gulp and find the courage to ask.

"Who are you?" I ask in a hoarse whisper.

The girl smiles sweetly and starts moving her hand, the planchette moves first towards A, then D, then E, L, I, N and then finally stops at E.

ADELINE.

It takes me a while to realize she just told us her name. I turn around and look towards Kai who seems lost in his thoughts.

"What..." Kai speaks again but pauses for a second before continuing "You said we didn't do anything to make you hurt us...Yet, so what do you want from us?"

She smiles wider now, and focuses her gaze on Kai. It seems like like time froze as we wait for her reply.

She doesn't. This sends more chills to my spine. She doesn't reply and just smile. Does this mean she wants to hurt us now.

"Why are you haunting us." Asks Kai. I want to slap him for this. I think it's easy to figure out that she wants us dead.

She smiles again and starts moving the planchette, which moves around the board first stopping at R, then E, V, E,N,G and finally at E.

REVENGE.

My eyes shot away from the board. "We didn't harm you in anyway, why do you want revenge from us?" My voice comes out more like a cry. She smiles again innocently and starts moving the planchette again. The words it spell this times takes me a while to get. NOTYOU.

NOT YOU.

I let out a breath after getting this. "Who then?" asks Kai.

The planchette starts moving so fast this time that it was hard to keep up with it. The three of us look  around furiously trying our best to catch the words its stopping at. It was hard for me to see the letters from where I am sitting, so I give up trying to read them.

After just few seconds the planchette stops. I look at Kai hopping that he would tell me what it said, but he simply stares at the board in shock while Evan lets out a gasp.

"What was it?" I ask tired of waiting for any one of them to tell me what they read.

Kai looks up from the board and look at me straight in the eyes. "Hardin... Smith." He whispers.

I look at him in shock. Hardin is Candice' father who we visited a couple of days ago. She killed his only daughter and now she wants him too.

"Why him?" I whisper while looking at her. She smile fells and her jaw clenched. Now I could tell she is angry. The planchatte starts moving furiously again. Stopping on the letter R E V E N G E over and over again. She kept of repeating these letters while the temprature in the room dropped further. Some kind of breeze starts blowing  everything in the room including my hair. The lights starts flikering on and off. I could see Kai and Evan struggling to stop their hands from moving around the board forming the same word over and over again.

I finally hear a car coming into the drive way over the loud wind blowing. At that very second, the wind stops and the lights stop flickering and are left on. I try jerking my hand away like the many times I've done before, but this time my hand does response and i was able to remove it from the planchette. All three of us remove our hands happy that they are not stuck to the planchette and the board anymore.  When i look around I'm not surprised to see Adeline gone and Oreo no where in sight.

"Shit, Mr and Mrs Val are here." Evan says bringing me and Kai back to reality.

The next thing I know is Kai picks up the Ouija board and him and Evan make a run towards the back door, the exact moment the front door open.
