Chapter 13.

Kai drops me home after lunch. It was fun catching up on life about some of the things we missed. It helped with shifting my bad mood, but that all went out the window the second I stepped inside the house and there was that cat glaring at me sitting beside the couch in the living room.

Alex isn't back from his university yet and mom and dad are upstairs in their room. I walk slowly towards the stairs, my gaze never leaving Oreo's glare. As soon as I reach the stairs I make a run for my room without looking back.

I close my room's door when I hear a knock. "Iris." I hear dad on the other side. I open the door wide as dad eyes me in concern "Is everything okay? You are never usually this late after school."

"Yes..I went out for lunch." I think twice if I should add that I went for lunch with Kai. I don't think dad would mind the idea of me going out with a guy, But then again I don't usually do that a lot so I don't know what his reaction will be. "with Kai." I add. And as expected dad's eyes widen in shock. "Dad we both missed lunch at school and were starving so he asked me if I want to join him, and I didn't know how late mom will be today so I went. Is that bad?" I continue before dad can start babbling the 'daddy' talk.

"No darling Kai is a good kid but I'm surprised...You know you never even talked to him and now suddenly he is even dropping you to school." He pause for a second taking in my expression of shock. I never got into Kai's car for school from anywhere near home. It was after mid way to school, And dad saw that some how. "And your mother spoke to your friends, they said you have been acting distant for a while. Is it because of Leah? They said you only talk with Kai now a days."

I let out a sigh and look down. "It's just that... I..."

"You can tell me." Dad pats my shoulder.

"Dad it's just that I feel bad about Leah, and wanted to share that with someone who doesn't know her. Sasha already feeling sad and I didn't want to add more burden. Then Kai was nice enough to hear me out."

"That's it?" Dad questions. And I nod. I didn't want to tell mom and dad about Oreo yet. Either they will freak out or not believe me. Plus there are things I need to find out before my parents step into this. "Well than its good to know its wasn't anything big. But you shouldn't cut your other friends."

I nod with a smile "I won't."

"Good. Well then you should feed that cat of yours. It won't eat anything we serve her." Dad laughs and turn around to walk back to his room.

"Dad." I stop him mid way "Where did you get Oreo from?"

Dad turns around "From my secretary Maggie. Her cousin didn't want his cat anymore and was looking around for someone to take him in. I heard about this from Maggie when I was thinking about a birthday present. So I though you would like to have it. Surprisingly Maggie's cousin was in a hurry to give that cat away that he didn't even ask for any money, and asked me to take it that very second."

I take a while to think about what dad said. The man was desperate to get rid of Oreo. How bad were the things with him? "Dad can you give me his address?" I ask hopefully

"I don't know him or his address Maggie is the one who got him and did the talking. why is there something wrong?" Dad asks.

"No.. I wanted to know about Oreo's habits. You know he is quiet all the time, so I was just wondering if I can know more about him."

"In that case you can learn thing with time. Just take good care of him now that he is back." Dad smiles "We don't want you loosing your other cat."he adds before waking away towards his room.

I watch dad's back till it disappears behind the door before walking back in my room and locking the door. I walk around the room sighing every now and then as I think of ways to find dad's secretary and ask her about the first owner. I bite my lip walking back downstairs and coming face to face with Oreo's mismatching eyes. I wanted to talk to him but it's not like you can reason out with a haunted cat.

The best way right now is to find the first owner and learn about him. He might know how and where all this started.

Carefully and quietly I walk out the front door and turn around towards Kai's house. I jump over the fence quietly landing on my feet. I stand there for a second wondering if I should knock on the front door and ask who ever opens the door that I'm here to see Kai or just directly knock on his window.

To my surprise Kai opens his window with a quiet squeak and pokes his head out smiling towards me as if he saw me coming.

"No ones home you can come through the front door." He calls out nodding his head towards the door.

He disappears in his room and seconds later the front door opens and Kai beckons me to come in.

I walk inside slowly looking around the house that I didn't step in for several years now. It is a single story house, wider and longer compared to ours. The front door is connected to the living room with a conjoined kitchen on one side and a hall way on the other which probably leads to bedrooms.

Kai walks towards the kitchen and I follow him. We both take a stool around the island counter facing each other.

"Dad got Oreo from his secretary's cousin. I think I should meet this cousin of her. He must know a few things right?" I tell Kai.

"We" Kai comments with a straight face I look up to him and frown not getting what he mean. "We will meet that person, not just you alone. But first we have to find him." He pause clicking his long fingers on the counter, thinking. "Well I think it will be better if your dad doesn't find out we are looking for that person. So we should contact the secretary directly." He speaks slowly.

"Do you really think my dad won't find out if I went and talked to his secretary. plus why not just ask dad to ask her." I suggest.

Kai leans front and cross his arms over his chest thinking again. "We don't want your parents discovering about Oreo yet. They might be in danger then. How about you leave this to me. I will get his address my way." He finally speaks with a ghost of a smile on his lips.

I think about what Kai just said "And what exactly is your way?"

Kai smirks at my question "Its a hidden talent. I'll call you when I'm able to find him."

I really wonder what he is up to, but decide not to ask him and give him a chance.

*****

The bell rings through the school announcing the end of class and the school day. I walk out of class carrying my books and shove them inside the locker as I spot Kai walking towards me with a smile plastered on his lips.

He stops right in front of me and pulls out a small piece of paper from his pocket and holds it right in front of my face.

"Found him." Kai announces in a sing song tone!
