𝗝𝗨𝗟𝗬𝟭𝗦𝗧, a daythe eldest haitani would soon come to find repetitive. all days of the year are repetitive. nevertheless, this particular day stands out from the rest, because it is unforgettable. unforgettable almost always suggest great times and happy memories. well, the situation rei was in is nowhere near happy.
rage, condemned resentment, and sadness. those were the feelings the brunette felt when she gazed upon the raging fire that arose and bit at her from the mere temperature. it burned. what burned wasn't her body or anything physical, no, what burned was her heart. her heart was pierced by the very same flame that killed her brothers. that hole remained until there was nothing left of rei haitani.
"take care of yourself, ane." a strawberry blonde with black highlights choked out. His oxygen supply was dwindling. no one was around to save the infamous siblings. on the other side lay a similar male who possessed long hair began to speak.
"leave, ane. before it's too late."
in all honesty, rei haitani was too stunned to speak. never in her life did she ever think fate would put her in a position such as this. uncertainty filled the older girl's mind claiming the last spot of thoughts that rushed through rei's head as if it were a race. rei's mind was overflowing, there was not one single thing she could focus on. her mind was a blur.
without self-consciousness, salty, blurry, and wet tears clouded her eyes. a lump formed in the back of her throat. it began to feel like she was underwater, short of oxygen, and suffocating. that moment in time is when she realized, her brothers had already stopped breathing. it was like her body had a mind of its own as she ran like it was the last time.
july 1st, 2018, was the day everything changed. it was like a gift from the universe. or rather, an apology from the player of the other side. rei haitani had collapsed and lost the ability to intake oxygen before her brain could even process it. instead of passing to the afterlife, whether or not it actually existed, she was met with a familiar face; eiko sato.
her surroundings had changed too, she was no longer cornered by the roaring flames that will forever taunt the 30-year-old woman. there she stood, in front of her house, next to a male by the name of eiko sato. rei haitani was tense yet her mind stayed blank of the past course of events. was her life passing before her eyes? has she gone insane? though her last question held some truth, she was wrong. this was the universe's apology to her.
